It's been a while when audiogalaxy was still free. Well, after it forbade transferring of almost every song, most people migrated to kazaa or e-donkey/mule. But these programs really suck big time for downloading music. You get very few matches for songs. Well, at least not as much and as sorted as back with audiogalaxy.
Yes I am still buying tons of CDs. But that's no substitute.
Now my question is. Did anybody find a worthful successor to it? Something where you can find a bit more uncommon bands as well?
Thanks for your time |

well, if you look for the beatles or so that might be true.
But when I do a search for "people under the stairs" (who even have been on mtv already)I get about 10 different songs. and only 4 or so with more than one source for download. And songs with another language are even worse.
Plus I really miss the similar artists button.
I guess there is no substitute. Thanks for your time anyways, bang |

Since Audigalaxy went down, there are no similar alternatives that are as good I think. I use Soulseek since then, it's not as fast, but it works fine. For "people under the stairs" it gives about 200 matches. http://www.slsk.org
The good thing is that you see the folder on the remote machine, where you are downloading from, so you can download complete folders and Albums, wich sometimes leads you to other cool artist of the same style, too.

i ve got people under the stairs album from soulseek. Direct connect is a good app to download music and movies but 80% of people want sharing program that have only place where you enter search keyword and a download button. So if you one of those lazy ones use soulseek its very good for music. kaza good for porn not full albums nor movies. |

Speaking of Kazaa - is Kazaa Lite still available and ad/popup free? Someone told me recently that they had to comply with Sharman(sp?) Networks and add some adware to the application.
I have the original version on another hard drive somewhere, and I would love to get a hold of the install for my existing setup. |

Kazaa Lite is actually more ad free now.. Ive found the occasional popup... but Its not to the point of too annoying yet.
Ive never had any problems finding any song.. and when you are looking for obscure christian music.. it gets pretty hard to find some stuff.. but Kazaa has always saved me. |

Direct Connect ++ usually takes care of all my needs. It forces you to share though, and that's a problem for the entire human race - who have a naturally evolved, genetically based tendency to leech. |

It depends on what you're looking for. And I think I heard from someone that the new version of Kazaa prioratises people's downloads based on how much you're sharing. Not sure about that, though.
You can also try soulseek. I don't know the URL but people seem to be having success with it.
I use mIRC these days. Hurray for dalnet! Hah |

yeah thats truth. i'm sharing like 60 gb of anime and music so ive got about 75 points and my participation (sp? ) level is medium. It's very simple people with more points can dowload files before the people with less point.
When i log in at the beginig there are some leechers on my upload list that got 0 points but after few minutes only people that share something are able to download from me.
Ive tried the new morpheus too, but it didn't run on my win2000.
if dc++ wasn't forbidenn on some hubs and if all hubs would work as if they should it would be a perfect program anyway I like it the most... _________________ portfolio | art blog |

The other day, I downloaded KaZaA light. It said I was sharing 50 files, but that wasn't enough to give me any points on my participation level....so I added my 12+ gb's of mp3s and music videos...It said I wasn't sharing anything after that and nearly froze. I think there's a file limit or something. =| bastard bee. |

i think there is no filie limit.
about the points
1. the points aren't given immiedtli (sp?), you have to wait or even restart the app (at least in my case)
2. point can be gained for how rare yore files are (how many other people in the network got them at that moment) plus (i'm not sure about that) how many people can download from u. _________________ portfolio | art blog |

I dunno, Im apparently a low user.. even tho I was sharing 10 gigs of star trek episodes.. but I downloaded the Star Wars Trilogy widescreens pretty fast.
I just make sure to keep that "speed up" program running while using Kazaa and I never have a problem.
oh and I read on the Kazaa forums thatif you connect to yourself and download a bunch of crap from yourself you can increase your user rating, because the servers dont keep track of it, your own machine does. |
