Anthony,
Thanks.

daffy,
Thanks, yeah I really like that last one James did too.

Arc][Pello,
Thanks, all of these were done in PS6. The 3rd one is drawn by hand, perspective took about 2 hours to do. I'm 36, James is younger. I've been out of school for 12 years.

Cool stuff. Can't make room for yet another book on any of the shelves so I guess it's time again for a new bookshelf.

I was looking for that picture of the two racers over the water on your web site to show my brother a few weeks back but couldn't find it. I started to wonder if I had my mental file of artist and their artworks screwed up.

Are there any ideas floating around about what subsequent books might cover compared to the first?

Concept Design sneak peek

As some of you already know I have been working on a book with several concept design colleagues. It all started last fall when we came together to undertake a project that would inspire each of us to improve our skills and broaden our imaginations. Our one year project will come to a finish in October when I will compile the work we have done into a book to share with everyone. It is our hope that this book will inspire many new artists to create visions of their own to share with the rest of the world as we all do now on these great forums. We hope that the book sells well enough to enable us to continue and do another one for next year. In the first week of September I will launch a new website dedicated to community, creativity, and education.

In this post you can get a sneak peek of several the of images from early in the project. The first and last images are from James Clyne, www.jamesclyne.com . The middle two are from myself, www.drawthrough.com . Later this summer I will add a few more images from the other team members, Nick Pugh, Neville Page, Harald Belker, Steve Burg, and Mark Goerner. Until that time I hope you enjoy the following images in this post.

Great pictures as usual (This includes the Clyne-pictures too). I'm fascinated of the accuracy of the perspective-construction of these complex forms (2 hours - unbelieveable). If there are little mistakes, they are not obvious. Where's the trick ? On what paper-size did you make the construction?

Gimbal8,
Thanks, I've got a couple of ideas but they are not ready for disclosure yet. I took down the section on the website where it used to be because I could not keep that section up to date enough.

francmidi,
Thanks, it just takes practice. The line drawing is done on 14x17 paper in ballpoint . The red hovercar measures about 6" for scale reference.

FSME,
Thanks, mine too, I'm eager to get it done now.

[666]Flat,
Thanks, I'll relay that to King James.

Swarm,
Thanks.

EmKah,
Thanks, that's fine, its just an experiment. I think it works on that level.

scott, these are great... i'm totally looking forward to picking up a copy of the book later...

i think they're all cool, though i gotta say that the last one was the one that damn near knocked me out of my chair... as for the second one, i see you're really liking the random lasso tool thing you did with those two sculpture pics...

cheers

This is really really sweet Scott. Btw, I really enjoyed James Clynes concept art for Minority Report, the chopper-design is awesome.

Thats maybe why i dont like the 2nd image... its to clear visible that u used the lasso tool... and it looks a bit "ordinary"... iam sure its something like a hovering car or an underwater vessel...
however i really like the 3rd the water is just great...

LoTekK ,
Thanks, the lasso tool picture was actually the first time I had tried that before. The sculptures came later.

Binke ,
Thanks, yeah I thought James did a great job with that police ship.

EmKah,
Thanks.

mitch,
LOL, thanks we'll keep trying.

This week's update.....

This is a piece Nick Pugh has done for the book. I'm not going to try to explain the ideas that are behind this piece here, Nick will provide his thoughts in the book. I hope for now though that you enjoy the art. This piece started as a traditional line drawing and then was rendered in PS6. To enjoy more more of Nick's stunning work you can go to: NickPugh.com

Sumaleth,
LOL, thanks, Nick will explain in the text of the book just what's going on.

B0b,
Will do, I plan to link to the new site from here when I post the last update, about nine weeks from now.

X -ECUTIONER,
Hey thanks a lot. That is the core of our project, inspiration and creativity.

StrangeFate,
Yeah, me too, James nailed that one.

SplitSoul ,
Thanks, more to post here next week. I think I will try and make Monday mornings the update day each week.

Ian Jones,
Glad to hear you are enjoying it so far.

General Confusion,
LOL, thanks, we are publishing ourselves and selling direct from the new website soon to come. I'm hoping to find time to explore the lasso sketching thing a bit more. James and Harald have some nice examples too which you will see in the book.

I'm glad too hear everyone is finding something they like in the posts so far, it will give us that extra little bit of motivation to try and do even better work to finish up the project, thanks again for your support.

-Scott.

Here is this week's update. It is a piece done by Mark Goerner. It was rendered in PS6. Mark does not have a website as of yet so maybe we can all encourage him to get one through replies in this post, so we can see more of his great work online. Enjoy....
