Long time lurker, first time poster.
Overworked it. Any tips on how to get a better water effect would be appreciated. |

Wow, I'd like to see what it looks like without the rain in front of it... I love the water dripping down the gun.
If it were me painting it I'd paint each raindrop individually... But I don't think that's the best idea in any way shape or form. Because I'm meticulous and I have a really large attention span for art. ;P
Maybe try toning down the raindrops that are falling and put emphasis on some here and there, hopefully that might give the rain a sense of depth... Because right now it looks to me like it's only raining on one plane in the picture. |

Here is the earliest saved step I have. I actually think it looks much better this way, but I went ahead and experimented with getting a rain effect... A good learning experience I guess - BTW, the painting is Painter 6.1 with post in PS7...

The perspective on the gun seems a little off but the overall image is still good.
The thing about rain is most people think about rain as a bunch of individual drops of water and try to paint it as such. I think a better way to go about it would be to paint the way rain reacts with light. Not each droplet, but an overall effect volumetrically. What you've done almost looks right except there are too many raindrops of the same relative angle, blur distance and light reflection. It makes it look like it is raining in 2d.
Post more stuff, it's more fun then lurking. |

I like the look of the picture a lot. I think it is better without the rain but only because of the said problems with depth. The raindrops on his face and jacket I like, as well as the water dripping from the gun. Fix the depth problem and I will love it forever. Its a great picture either way and I look forward to seeing more from you. MORE! NOW! |
