Hi all!
Failed once again. Im trying to learn how to paint with references. I started out with some pictures of mountains and an hour later I changed it all and couldnt reference anything anymore. How can I the learn???

I cant. So I ask you to help me. As I said, I had no reference, so I need comment about the lighting, coloring etc.

If you would do an overpaint it would be great. Ive seen so much fantastic art here so to be overpainted by you guys would be an honour

Nice environment..

the odd thing is.... you need to look at it too long to figure out what direction she is facing. I know she faces the mountains.. but.. its also odd how her head is looking up to the leftish... and her arm is pointing the the right... confusses us visually.

I'd say.. make her head looking to the right so we can see ever so slightly see her profile.

Hope it all goes ok.

one thing that bugs me is the perspective of the mountains... to me, those mountains look like nothing more than large rocks, in relation to the girl... unless you were just rendering the very peaks of the mountains (which brings a whole different set of issues into the fray), i think you might have to look at how to make those mountains more towering...

i don't have any decent ideas off-hand, but maybe you could try to separate rock outcrop the girl is standing on, and the mountain in the foreground by softening up the latter to simulate some atmospheric perspective (and doing the same to the rest of the background)... as for the mountains themselves, they seem a little smooth, for lack of a better word... the only example i can think of offhand that you might be able to look at is by spooge (it's an early sketch for a matte for the final fantasy movie):

(hope craig doesn't mind)

umm, that's all i can think of right now... hope that helps...

Txs LoTekK!
You are right. I tried to get som atmospheric effect in first by doing 3 mountains(hehe or rocks) and creating distance by making them more and more blue.
The problem is that I did that, saw that something was still wrong and then tried to fix that and ended up with no distans feeling and no good rendering of the mountains.

I will try to do what you suggested. break appart the protrusion she is standing on and then rendering the mountains better.

Txs again for your comments!

Anyone else?
