Well, it's been a long time between posts for me. A large project I'm working on has been keeping me very busy lately, but it should be worth it. In the meantime, here is a nice little illustration I created recently.

It was to be a point-of-sale mobile , with the snake hanging down in a spiral with the product in it's mouth, but after requesting a realistic snake illustration, the client decided that it was too scary for the general public (hey, don't ask me) and a cartoon snake was used in it's place.

And a detail:

[edit: images fixed? Guys, please let me know if you can see then now.]

Oh, for fucks sake! Does anyone know a free webhost that allows direct image linking? Both of my current hosts seem to have cancelled that feature since I last used it

Is that a pay for account? If so, demand that you be allowed to hotlink.

Nice to see you around.

rdgraffix: Very nice image. I love the texture.

About your trouble with direct-image-linking... I've been using www.artistnation.com for a while now, and they offer free image linking. Give it a try. Hope it works for you.

Hi guys. It's good to hear from you again - Damn, I didn't realise how much I missed this board.

The images are being hosted on my RedRival account now, which seems to be working.

Max - The white line is just to show where the mobile will be die-cut so that it hangs from the end of the tail and winds down in a nice aesthetic spiral. This is obviously a very commercial piece and there are a lot of things I would have done differently otherwise. But, hey - food and shelter are both good, good things, right?

Cool, nice work. The highlights on the scales are great. The texture really makes it stand out.

I noticed that the pattern repeats itself round the spiral, how did you achieve this?

maybe an illustrator custom stroke brush?hmm...

Hiya Rinaldo!

Narf! It seems like some people can access the images and others get red crosses. Well, artistnation.com seem to have closed signups for now and all the other free hosts I've tried don't allow hotlinking. What happened to the web - you leave for 6 months and it all goes to hell .

Ian - Very observant - yes the pattern repeats. It's the lovely result of a Painter 6 pattern pen used VERY carefully to try and follow the die cut shape as closely as possible ( and yes, I had to partly retouch it into shape - no wacom stroke is that accurate AND smooth).

Alright. Hopefully I've managed to fix the image problem (thanks HawkOne for the tip about changing the extension to .txt)

- Now it seems to work for me, but if anyone is still getting the little red no-picture crosses, please let me know.

If the custumer wanted a spiral then its ok. Otherwise I would have said its a weak composition and a background could be a plus.(But never mind that, u did what was needed.)

Other than that it is very nice, and it's almost a shame to size it down when the detail rock so much!!

Im curious how you created the texture/bump of the skin, how did u made the patern follow so well the spiral? Could you plz explain how u did it.
