well, i call it pixelation, but i guess it's "officially" called pixel art. anyways, i used photoshop to make it, and what you basically do is draw the line art pixel by pixel. an example of a tutorial on how to do it is here:

the fact that the lamp isn't in perspective is kind of bothering me.

B3AND1P: It's not really about that.. Pixelation is/was commonly used in the Demoscene... check out the Galleries at Gfx-zone Much of the art you see there is pixelled...

Actually, at its most basic level, it's exactly that. It's also pretty cool, imo

I like the pixelroom very much. Pixelation is IMO a real art-form and very difficult to master.

Pixelation is an art form, but it's not particularly difficult. What it mostly is is DIFFERENT. Sometimes this throws off people who, say, specialize in Painter or similar media.

Pixel art is mostly the realm of video games, and even that is diminishing as more and more games enter the third dimension. It's a dying art. Or rather, it's a dying TECHNIQUE; nowadays it's more often relugated to the category of Arte.

I critique this piece not as art but as architectural representation.

Nice job. ^_^ Looks very crowded, though...I would recommend doing a bit of moving. ^_^;;;

What Angelic said. Pixel art was once a form used in the 2D games of the past. In the RPG scene it had quite possibly it's biggest effect. It was quite a beautiful art form, but is being casually pushed aside by stupid developers craving powerful 3D engines. I'd prefer pixelart any day to stupid generic 3D meshes

I second Beos sentiment. There is something inherently appealing about pixel art.

edit - Its a nice image, ace. My only gripe is the lack of colors. Art like this is typically..more vibrant. Im not sure Im getting the gist of my argument across.

For example - if you were to paint the walls a healthy shade of red, and add a few green potted plants here and there - it would get 3 extra points.

ha, pixel art. I love it. I worked on a couple of game demos for gameboy last year with my friends from school, those were the days... anywayz, I did this for fun.

pixel art

to me, pixel art is very easy to learn but very very hard to master. Especially when you are working with 8x8 tiles and only have a texture square of 256x256 for the whole map of the world... with tiles that could be used again and again in different ways... and a limit of 16 colors... haha....

I think your pic is a bit big, the smaller it is and the less pixel you use, the more hardcore the piece of pixel art becomes. give yourself a resolution limit and put as much information in there as you can. Just make sure it's clear and not to crowded.

keep pushing the pixels!

later!

click here for some quality pixel art.......

Awesome image buddy, I love pixel art. It looks like something right out of hobo hotel or whatever place is called haha.

Did you see that guy's show where he had pixelated art depicting scenes from the Columbine massacre, the MLK Jr. assasination and stuff like that?

Maybe a help: a good pixel paint program is Pro Motion... can anybody remember the Deluxe Paint Series? Well, there ya go, this program is basically a windows-version of the good old Deluxe Paint 2 Enhanced on the PC.

sensoryoverload : Thank you so much for that link ! Quality pixel art is difficult to find... This was really enlightening

Badoli : I find Pro Motion to have too many bugs Altho it's perfect doing some palette animation !

ace rockolla. : As it was said before some more punchy colours would be nice. Gradients, highlights, shadows too ?
I don't know about the officiality of that name tho. It's just a trendy way to call pixel art.. more hip, etc.
