Just wanted to see what you guys thought of this. It's my first painting in gouache (hope to start working digital after doing a few more of these).

That's freakin' dope, I love the carved look you got with the harsh highlights and such...alhtough, I think it would look better if you continued the black down the entire piece instead of just .stopping. Great job none-the-less. |

Nice work!
The scan is a bit dark though. I'm sure you used a full palette so maybe bumping up the contrast to help it pop more? Then again it could be my monitor...
Once again, nice job. Watts Atelier? |

Gigatron- Gouache is basically watercolor with gum stuff added to it. Making it a bit thicker and far more opaque. |

Golongria - Thanks As for the black, I dunno, I kinda like it the way it is. If I continue the black all the way down im gonna lose that hard edge at the bottom, which helps add to the curve of the composition. I might continue to bring the black down the should on the right and frame him, but I dunno- I guess I'm just happy with the way it is now and I'm afraid of mucking it up
King Lono - Cherokee eh? That's cool :P This guy is a monk from Nepal though Thanks for the compliment.
donk - Talent is just having perceverience(sp?) to keep working at it and doing everything you can to keep learning. You just gotta love to do it! Two years ago I couldn't even draw a proportionate stick figure, and you wouldn't guess for me to have any "talent" what so ever.
Waldo - The scan looks good on my computer at home, but it's dark here at work. I dunno if my computer at home has the gamma set really high or if it's really low here :P You can drop the pictures into PS yourself and play with the settings so it looks good on your computer if you want And yes, Watts Atelier :P How'd you guess?
Dr. Monkey - Yup, Watts Atelier. Wonderful school, and I recommend you go if art of any form is what you want to do.
Again, thanks everyone for the great comments! |
