Started doing this a year ago, the idiot as I was back then I only concetrated on the tiny details and didn't see the picture as a whole, it was taking wayy too long time to paint so I got bored and forget about it. Frost and S4Sb gave me some good crits, thanks both of you!
This is how I found it again:
Well, last friday when I was uploading painting videos to my ftp (they were for Cgtalk's challenge), the computer went crazy, I booted, then tried to access the files and the computer froze again, I lost week worth of work because of this little accident but I should be back on schedule on wednesday. I was backing up my files (still am) and I had to move some files one by one, then I found this old picture and thought it would be entertaining to see if I could finish it in 40 minutes. As I said the pic is old so I would rather _not_ hear any crits on it, I know there's 100 million things wrong with it, especially in the major parts, but it's done and I'm happy I don't have to touch it never again! (If you crit I'm gonna find an image you made when you were eight and tear it apart )
The other guy in the image is Don Quixote and the original drawing (if someone has it you can post it, I lost mine) was made by Picasso, to be honest now-a-days I hate the work of Picasso and the art movements that came after it.. a year ago I had never heard of TRUE masters like Bouguereau.
Some people had told me how Picasso created photorealistic paintings at a very young age and drew a perfect circle in an intereview to prove his l33t skills and crap like that, six or seven months ago I checked out Sargent's work and made some comparisons to Picasso, I noticed that there was not a single painting by Picasso that could even come to close the fastest sketch by Sargent.
Later I also found out that Picasso's paintings from age of 14-20 were far from spectacular and there's nothing special about them. I think I can never understand why he is so popular and respected.
It looked like this a year ago:
How it looks now:
This shows how insane I was at that time, detail, details... details must draw details..:
This looks embarassing hmmmm.. I feel bad when I post images I'm not proud of... ok, here's a completely new image, it's a sketch I made for Cgtalk's challenge.. at least it took some thought: (I'd like to get some crits on this)

Looks pretty cool.. although I havn't seen the original.. *goes looking for it*.
While on the subject.. I just saw the hallmark produced version of "Don Quixote". Pretty good movie with excellent acting. Don Quixote is played masterfully by John Lithgow (dick from 3rd rock) and Bob Hoskins as Sancho. They are really perfect for their roles and while the movie has some flaws it's really worth seeing, if only to see Lithgow as Don Quixote. |

lol I knew it looked familiar, I love that Picasso drawing, I've copied it many times myself.
I love the texture on the log and the grass, good work on bringing this drawing into the CG world. I give it two thumbs up |

Heheheh =D Now this is cool =D I really like what you've made of it, even though the drawing isn't that great anymore. Especially on the donkey and the horse =) You could do a billion times better today. But I still like the way don quixote and sancho pansa look. They both have a real funny character to them. Well, the colours look even better now. Thouh I still couldn't do what you did back then with them. You somehow moved out of the greyshading... I dunno how you di, but your work looks more traditional nowerdays.
hey, btw. what happened to that crockodile detective in the rain? Did you ever finish that one? =D
where are you showing your work these days? I see you barely post here anymore. But lumental is pretty bg quiet as well. cgtalk? haven't seen too many posts of you there as well.
You know what? We gotta do these contests from back in the day again. =)
C ya
p.s.: you added detail to quixotes pike. tststs =D

It's funny how at early stages of learning art, we can spend twice as long at something to do it half as good.
Not that your orriginal is half as good..I actualy think it is prety nice. I don't feel there is anything seriously wrong with it.
It's possible that one of the reasons Picasso is so popular, is that he is contemporary. Come to think of it.. is he dead yet? I can't remember?
I love finding old pictures I've forgoten about. |
