I've been working on this picture off and on for several weeks. It's not quite done, but I'm going on vacation for a week. I may work on it a bit more when I get back... or maybe not...

Thats really nice eyewoo.

Perhaps darkening the shadow (darker) areas will enhance this piece a bit more (thats if you decide not to work much more on it) An ambient shadow in your dark places could make it look a little more photoreal (unless you don't want that) I dunno its just my feeling. Anyways great job.

***enjoy your vacation***

Cheers!

Phillip that's a nice painting. Lots going on! I'm afraid I'm a bit dense though - can you explain the set up a bit? I see some guys shooting people in the background and apparently not everyone has noticed yet. What is the guy in the foreground? I'm intrigued by the device in the midground behind the goggles-snout guy...

I like the creature on the left side below, i think he's very evil, is he? And the crowd looks very dynamic

I think the bright background behind the guy with the mask looks a bit to bright, and a get the feeling the pic is suddenly cut of below. Anyhow excellent painting eyewoo.

The picture is not based on any existing story. What I was trying to do is depict one of those moments that occur between two totally different time events... the calm before and the chaos after.

Roughly... the bot/animal guy is an ambassador type from another world which is dangerous and inherently deceitful. The creature at left bottom and the storm troopers are his guys. The thin guy to the right is the ruler of the place that the ambassador is visiting. He is a mystic and essentially the opposite of the ambassador, a good guy. All the guys in the back on the right side are his entourage.

The Mystic is holding up his hand (at the end of his effete arm) to stop the ambassador from advancing toward him. He has a welcoming expression on his face but is unable to get a sense of and is unsure of this unknown ambassador - with good reason, because the ambassador's storm troopers have just started to decimate the Mystic's posse. The storm troopers are being controlled by the bat-like creature in the very back right.

The creature behind the ambassador is his body guard and similar to the bat-like creature. He is about to encase the ambassador in his kevlar-like wings to protect him. The women at the left have heard the raucous, but haven't yet figure out that it is the sound of violence and death.

That bright thing... I have no idea what it is... some mystical chamber doodad ...

First - cool work! Very nice!

I see...

The dualistic nature of the human pysche as often defined by the archetype of consciousness. The "good guy" here is the natural and compassionate nature of every human; his environment appears peaceful, tranquil. Now introduce technology - "the bad guy" - technology that supresses the natural instincts of human nature, and chaos ensues.

Joseph Campbell often wrote of the decimating repurcussions of technology on indigenous people, and he also wrote similarly of the Star Wars metaphor. Darth Vader was the person that forgot himself and embraced the impersonal nature of technology - hence the mask and respitory reliance on technology; he was cold and calculated...without compassion or feeling.

We mustn't forget who we really are.

Ok...my two cents...

I've added an animated developmet stages GIF for anyone interested...

Development stages 264K

crazybread... I think I may darken some areas... but photo real is not my intention... just realistic...

Francis... Yea, I can see how it might be a bit to figure out. I wrote out an explanation above. I'm intriqued by that device to... just don't know what it is... it sort of evolved...

blok... yepsir, that creature is an evil one... a similar creature is controlling the storm troopers' assault up there at the upper right.

Arc][Pello... Yea, I like that color combo. Been sticking with it for awhile...

Tom... cool as ever, my man...

Waldo... LOL - BINGO... and that light thingy behind the Ambassador is what I'm trying to protect from the Art Director who thinks it is too bright - he wants it dark, mysterious and turquiois. My feeling is, it is mysterious just the way it is... BINGO!!!

Nice animation eyewoo saved it right away.
I think the artdirector wants the background
of the ambassader guy darker because now there isn't much contrast between the character and the background.

Anyhow correct me if i am wrong

O.k., eyewoo. I've figured it out. Your subconscious is in high gear.

This is you!

You're the Good Guy Mystic Artist who is fending off the Bad Guy Ambassador Art Director and his minions who have invaded your studio to grab your masterpiece that had the insanely ridiculous deadline. And your arm isn't ineffective. It's just been parked behind the computer working a tablet for too long.

The tip-off?

The white cotton pinky glove...
