the 2nd image(top one) of the series is better IMO. I love how vibrant it is. I love the fact that the two images seem to be different times of day. great lighting!

[edit] one thing I did just notice is that it seem that the upper arm on the top image (our right) seems very short... making the arm itself seem not right.

and I just realized that this style of painting very much reminds me of Max Payne. I mean ALOT.[/edit]

the top one seem to be the best, the lighting is great. the only thing that bugs me is the window id really like to see some of the light from inside reflecting on the glass.
apart from that there both great.

Well I just have a couple of comments. If this is supposed to be a series then it depends a lot on your ideas. Depending on your ideas on the piece then my critique might not be relavent.

In the 'first image of the series', i,e the second picture posted the desk is longer than the first. This was a little off putting if they are supposed the be the same image, just at different times. This also puts the computer at a different level.

Also the lamp in the first needs a little work, but I doubt that you had finished it, so you have to keep plugging away at it.

Also in the first picture, there should be a shadow reflected onto the wall a little bit, if that is a primary light sourse, seeing as its night and there is no light from the back.

Then also the arm in the first one, 'on the right' the upper arm seems a little flat. If you brighten it up a bit it should bring it forward more.

You definatly have it, so not to worry. You have all the ideas, just keep pluging away at it.

Freddio:

I think the second (top) piece of the series has some great texture and lighting. The fabric in the foreground has stunning values to it, and the shirt is incredible. I'm feeling more vitality and realism in the light on your skin with this one, and I don't think it's too cluttered.

The only thing I can see doing with it, is possibly resetting the composition. Every time I look at this piece, I want it to be cropped more on the right side.

The pictures on the wall are great, but the central figure (you?) being more offset to the right would somehow make the lighting more appropriate (in my eyes). It has to do with drawing the eyes from the light source, sweeping down and to the right to the focus figure. Has the right feel I'd think.

Nonetheless, they're both great pieces, and I can't see a problem with getting a great grade. You deserve it for the stellar leaps you've taken with your art.

Hi Freddio,
I have no doubt that you will get an "A".
Would you please tell what software program or programs you used.
And just a little info on how you applied the effect.
Thanks,
catnip

Then loaded up photoshop 5.0
sketched a rough outline, then blocked in the basic colours and so on. then played around with textures and layers and layer properties.

Hey Hugh, the pic looks great. Sorry I don't have any useful crits for you since the others have covered most of it and the pic really does achieve it's purpose as it is.
The level of this work is beyond me for critiquing anyway
Good luck with the HSC, I'm sure you'll do great.
