Yeah, yeah, there's something fascinating about those fantasy creatures... Yesterday I got maself "Icewind Dale" (I know it's an old game, but when I heard it's like my all time favorite RPG Baldur's Gate, I had to take a look at it) and I'm feeling the strong urge to draw some of those... things again. Maybe a transvestite orc or something. Whatever, back to the topic:
Like you already mentioned yourself, there's a lot to improve in that pic, like:
- Outlines: gotta be black and clean, just like yer average hootie. (Forget the last part.)
- Definition: Your character needs more definition - his look's too flat. (Don't get me wrong. If he looked like Flat he'd be a damn sexy mofo. But that's another story.) Let me illustrate how to improve the "3d" fa<t0r in teh pictar of yu0rz by showing off a quick goblin sketch I did just for you in order to fix my "his-comments-are-annoying-only" reputation (be grateful already):
^ It has flaws on its own, but I won't overwork it 'cos I'm dang lazy. Take it or leave it.
- Anatomy: Hell, that's a weak point of my own. Sometimes you just seem to be able to recognize all the mistakes you did after scanning the damn picture and seeing it on your monitor. Right arm / shoulder and his legs are off. And he seems to be too thinly.
+ The arrow sticks way too deep in his arm.
The stream looks nice, but is too blurry compared to the rest of your picture.
My suggestion:
^ Take this part of your picture as reference and draw that scene again, this time showing your char not in a front view but from an 90� angle showing his left side. I think you could make something creamy out of that...
