I am working on a role-playing game project currently called "Sie-Spinner's Adventures" using the Sphere RPG Engine (www.aegisknight.org). The game is based on a 2d rpg that my group started a few years ago. The last site for the old project is up at http://www.geocities.com/asdatia. We plan on using 3d rendered graphics for backgrounds and sprites. It is a hobbyist project, and we are taking a step-by-step
approach, only doing what is needed for the demo at hand. These are the plans for demo #1. We will accept talented people for any of the positions listed in the plans,
though any accepted programmers have to become acquainted with the Sphere RPG Engine (http://www.aegisknight.org) and know Java and C++. The exact duties of those positions are described in the plans, as well as how I can be contacted. I look forward to working with talented 3d artists, musicians, and programmers, who would like to make a 3d looking (yet tecnically 2d) rpg. If you have some spare time and would like to work on a game project, check out the plans below.
Demo #1 Plans.
001 royal palace, Mindian,
Lanana faces away near her bed on the left side of the screen. Enter Reckrus from right side from bedroom entryway. Lanana turns and faces him.
Reckrus Marches up to Lanana.
Reckrus:"Lanana, I would do anything in the world for you."
Lanana:"Reckrus, I told you it would make no difference. I don't care."
Reckrus:"Please give me a chance..."
Lanana:"No! Leave me alone!"
Reckrus glares at her.
A painting of Lanana behind her bursts into flames.
Lanana jumps back showing surprised animation frame.
Reckrus leaves shocked. (next scene)
Requirements:
640x480 truecolor resolution, 64x64 tiles, 128x128 sprites. Zelda/FF1-6 top down
perspective for all graphics.
Dialogue box and menu. Lanana Sprite featuring surprised frame, and Reckrus sprite.
Lanana and Reckrus Character portraits. Song (mp3 file) featuring anxious tone that
turns to dark desperation. (Keep in mind that Lanana's bedroom is in a tower) Palace
floor textures, Lanana's bed, Bedroom entryway (which is a doorway with a staircase)
bedroom rug, pottery, windows, Lanana painting, 2-3 miscellaneous bedroom objects,
bedroom wall textures, empty filler texture. Burning painting animation.
Jobs:
Sprite artist
The Sprite artist will be given 2d sprites from the original version of SSA and be asked to re-make them by rendering them. The frames will be 128x128 with the artwork
centered in the frame. The human sprites will be twice as tall as wide within the
128x128 frame (which is 64x128)That is so that when the battle animations are done that there is room for Reckrus' dagger attacks to be animated in all directions, as well as Lanana's crossbow motions. If that is not big enough, 160x160 should work for sword animations. All the frames must be the same size for a sprite. The white empty area of the sprite will be filled with an alpha channel. The Sprite fortmat will be exactly like the 2d versions, with 8 directions, and followed by 8 battle directions. It goes North, Northeast, East, Southeast, South, southwest, west, Northwest. Then the directions repeat with the following battle animations per row: 3 attack frames, one magic casting frame, one hurt/injured frame, one defense frame, one dead frame (though I think this should be remade to face the direction of the row it is unnecessary) followed by one miscellaneous frame. The image size should be the width * the heighth (128 pixels wide x 8 frames) multiplied by (128 pixels high x 8 rows). The image format should be .png, which supports the alpha channel. The .pngs will be sent to me to be converted to Sphere spriteset format, which is .rss. The frames are all right next to one another with no pixel padding between frames or rows. Remember that Lanana must have a surprised/scream frame as one of her miscellaneous frames. If you have any trouble getting it in the right format I can assist you. [email protected] or icq @ 25593248. I recommend creating naked male and female base human sprites that you can use to work off of as you make various male and female characters. It will be your job to animate the Lanana painting so that it looks like it burns up suddenly. I will send you the painting and you will make the frames for it burning up, and send them back to me.
Programmer:
The programmer for Demo #1 must be able to have dialogue menus programmed for the
game that dynamically pop up.
From original SSA plans by Darklich:
Dialog
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
dynamically pops up
speed of menu popping in and out can be: slow, fast, almost-instantaneous
iconic.
Text is white, drops a shadow.
Character Portraits are 80x80 pixels(these are done by the portrait artist).
-------------------
| Pic(left) |
|(not see through)|
| Blue menu w/ | <-- White border
| Gradient |

-------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------
The programmer must be able to program fadeins and fadeouts for the bedroom map.
They must be able to program controlled sprite movements and display event oriented
sprite frames. After the initial fadein, Lanana is facing to the left. Reckrus is loaded onto the map at the bedroom entryway point. Lanana is controlled to move to turn the opposite direction (to the right). Reckrus moves toward Lanana. Then the dialogue above is displayed. A sprite animation is triggered(that is the burning painting animation) followed by another sprite animation, Lanana surprised frame. Then the Lanana sprite moves up a few pixels, then back down, and moves directly back a couple spaces while still facing to the right without any sprite animation frame changes. Then Reckrus is controlled to leave from the palace entryway.
Followed by fadeout.
Portrait artist
The portrait artist must make 80x80 character portraits based on the ones that I send you from the original SSA project. One of Reckrus and one of Lanana.
Musician
A Song (mp3 file) featuring anxious tone that turns to dark desperation.
Texture artists:
(Remember to have variations in your textures and to make them seamless and avoid
jagged edges unless you're making walls or things that are meant to have corners.)
here is a site with examples of the top down perspective:
http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/ff6/ff6ss.html
and also...
http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/ff6/graphics/screen/nikeah.gif
Floor/ground texture artist
Lanana's bedroom floor tiles, Bedroom rug tiles, and an empty space filler tile. This is so that when the characters move about the room and the map scrolls that you don't
see the edge of the map on the other side of the screen. It can be a dark black texture
like in the Final Fantasy games or it can be an outside sky texture, since the room is in
a tower. Bedroom entryway.. You have a view of a staircase from the side (ala FF6)
connecting to the floor.
Object Texture artist
Lanana's bed, 2-3 miscellaneous bedroom objects, pottery.
Wall Texture artist
An arch to go over the staircase that is the entryway to her bedroom. The actual
staircase entrance will be done by the floor texture artist. Windows (either glass or
open air) palace wall textures ( the walls for buildings will be like FF4 or FF6 in that generally you have one 64x64 tile which is repeated for two rows, with a top of the wall tile to go above them. Lanana painting (a painting of the Lanana character, it should be no bigger than 64x64)

WOHOOO, I really adore your plans, fellas, but there's a litte detail you should be aware of, just in case, ya know.
NOBODY ON THIS BOARD IS FUCKING GONNA DO IT.
Peeps on Sijun hardly react to friendly contest calls, not to mention huge game projects. |
