looks nice so far- i like the texture you created in the skin areas.
i'm assuming you weren't attempting to create an anatomically correct portrait, so i won't comment on anatomy issues.
the biggest problem that i see is the way your white areas in the portrait (eyes and highlights) seem to be holes through which the white background appears- coloring the background will make it look much better imo. also, try varying your palette a little- your colors tend to become saturated when darkened (are you using dodge/burn?) which may look ok in some areas but not as good on others. try desaturating/adding colder hues to the shadows around his (your) nose and under the chin. |
