very spacy and splatty. kewl effect. only one crit thou, strengthen some of the bleck areas, so it brings out the shinyness of the stars a bit more, there looking a bit mattright now. i really like that blue (*makes note of colour) |

Wow, showing my age here, this reminds of a really really old game that was out on Spectrum, C64, Amiga etc. called Captain Blood or something. You had this huge galactic map & stuff, looks just like it.
Very cool! (unlike people who remember computer games from '88) |

Wow. Just a few of years ago, I would've thought such an image couldn't be done with digital painting techniques. It really hits home just how advanced digital painting tools have become.

Thanks everyone, glad you all seem to like it
For those that want to know how I did this, it was really just the work of custom brushes I made as I went along. I start out with a pretty vague background to lay out the colors and where the brighter areas will be. Then in a new window I start making bits and pieces of "star patterns" to brush onto the image. I made one layer of stars, duplicated it and flipped it to make it more dense. For the bright areas I just went in with an almost white textured brush and made tiny splatters.

Thats great! i thought it was the real thing at first!
i opened this page and went to get a dring. when i came back, from far away it looked like a scanned picture of a butt. hehe..hmm maybe just my imagination?
