12 pics from CotS. Some are about a year old...so quality may vary...but, hey, I like 'em.

in general they are top notch, and your hair and clothing techniques are exquisite, but the faces in 'arcane steed' 'the artifact' and 'veteran lancer' (on the soldiers) could benefit from some more attention. I don't know if they suffer anatomically or merely seem too flat and two dimensional, but I find the faces are the only thing that detracts from them. (in my opinion).
please don't take any offense, I admire your work, but I felt as though that needed (to me) some improvement.

Don't worry, Vesuvius--I'm not offended. I think I did rather skimp out on the detail on those faces. At the time, I thought it would look better if I didn't mess around too much with detail beyond basic structure, but it does make them look rather flat.

I did a better job of the faces in the art I did for the first CotS expansion, but...*snf*...that isn't out yet, so I can't show you. *snf*

What jerO said, excellent value range usage. Some of the more subtle things, like clouds, are quite remarkable. Can't wait to see the improvements in your more recent work when it becomes available.

Hey, thanks, Jer0 and Gimbal8. I appreciate your comments...all these grayscale paintings were most of what I did for half a year, there, so I was hoping to hear people's thoughts.

The second book, FYI, will be out some time around September, I think.

Some crit about picture above: check out her left shoulder. It can't be like that.

It's very well rendered and a great overall picture, some things look a little odd to me however.

Looking at the upper body i'd imagine she was facing our right but from the legs it seems that she's facing our left. This gives me the impression that she's disconnected at the hip. The arm on our right has a strange joint at the shoulder, which looks swollen. It looks like the wrong muscle was flexed for that particular movement of the arm.
The neck seems to be too much like a perfect cylinder, suggesting that the neck, too, is swollen.

The hand holding the wrench is in a position that i could only achieve by use of great force (and breaking my pinky in the process) .

I'd work a little on the facial expression. The body language works but the face looks a little like a mannequin. The lack of facial expression is visible in almost all of the pictures.

Maybe i'm being too harsh here...i feel like i'm sounding mean, but i don't intend to - i just want to help.

Tepox - Thanks! Glad you like it! And, yeah, you're right about the shoulder.

Novacaptain - Don't worry about being too harsh. I agree with you on your crits, in fact, although that particular image is about a year old at this point, and already in print, so I won't be modifying it any more. I am still working on perfecting the human figure, though, so anything you can tell me, even about mistakes I made on older pictures, is helpful.
