Hi all, I've done two new pics, advice and critique is badly needed!
Did this one because I'm terrible at painting faces and I need practice.
Began as something simple for the gasmask thread and turned into this rocketman guy. Got tired of painting it though, so it's kinda messy. Just trying to play with lighting and contrast really.
Cheers! |

they both look great. For the face of the woman, there's something creepy about her eyes. I think it's the face that she doesn't have any pupils, just a big iris. The pupil is the perfectly black oval looking part in the middle. I dunno, it may just be me. Seems sorta like the iris is too 3 dimensionaly rounded, kinda like a marble sticking out of her eye. |

Good work, you have solid technique. Not much to crit really, except maybe just push them to a slightly more refined state, but thats not imporant. I agree about the eyes, but I think their overall shape needs to be corrected. They look weird overall.. sorta. The pics stand-alone well, without the need for any more work. Perhaps consider working on some backgrounds!? |

Love the woman, something stirs inside of me when I look at her. Perhaps a shade more detail to the hair?.... not into robots too much myself. Nice though. |

I think that the "something creepy" that Dan mentioned is the fact that her eyes don't seem to have a lot of volume; instead of showing the eyeball protrufing from the head a little, the cheeks are flat right up until the pupils, which makes them look odd.
I'm really diggin' em both, though. |

Hello Jason
Great work as always yust a few thing that caught my eye . The girls eyes in my opinion are to small as well as the arms and hands on the rocketman . Lighting is lightastic Always a pleasure looking at your work

on the 1st image, her eyes seem really tiny
on the 2nd image his hands are too small
other than that, i like the 1st image, although you should define the clothing a bit more...and i don't like the colour you chose for the second image. I would like to see more robots by you though, because you seem to have a cool mechanical style
keep them coming, and remember
its better to listen to criticsm than praise
cause then you know what you did wrong
sometimes its hard to evaluate your own work and figure out whats wrong with it |

Hi, sorry for bringing up an old thread but my internet connection was cut for a couple of days so I couldn't reply.
Thanks to everyone for your advice, it's pretty clear that the eyes need to be bigger. Back to the drawing board!
As for the hands, I have a tendency to do that. I should take some life drawing classes. Thanks again, and I'll work on my eyes and hands in future drawings. |

Whoa, you're getting really good Jason!
Your female reminds me a lot of Sedone's stuff with that palette and somewhat 'blotchy' strokes. Very well done. I feel like she's too thin. Like she needs more meat on her back so that the cloak can hang a little deeper into the image.
Great work man, really good job. |
