Greetings

By popular demand I have been asked to post a piece in the body of my thread. I have cleaned the website of digital images for easier navigation for those who may be still interested...

Note: This piece has been posted in the past but I hope to get a fresh critique by some of the artist here that are into helping the fellow artist. Goodness where is Greg Pro? hehe.


If you would like to get a few more pictures of my digital art in order to get a grander understanding of my digital art weaknesses please feel free to visit my now cleaned up junk pile of a website. What I am trying to receive critique wise is general instructions on how to improve on my digital art on a individual level, if it is not too much of a problem. I have received some useful instructions but wanted to see if I could get a little more. Thank you for your time in advance

ok, indian prophet, here's a quick comment with a painting....since I said I would

But, I remember I did the same with your ape once a while ago. And, to be honest most of these comments are the same.
But, these are the things I would change on this pic.

1. the composition I would change right away. I interpret the picture that it was this animal standing in front of a waterfal, but it's hard to say. But, then a change of the angle of the animal, so it's not right from the side and also not pushed all the way to the right as it is now. Many different ways to do that.

2. when you start to paint, try to really focus on keeping the edges around the shapes. Now, this animal is more blurred in the edges around than inside, which makes the whole picture look very blurry and muddy.

3. I would have tried to find some light and shadows and tried to paint the whole picture more roughly before I'd start painting details. Think more of why you add light and dark. The light areas on the animal it's now hard to say if it is light, or water on top of it, because the values don't fit together. If you think more of this from the start, there is even a lot less cleaning that you need to do.

4. If you would have a background like that, I would definately tried to add some more shapes and things that describes what is there. If not, it would probably be better without a background at all.

5. But most important of all for you now I think, is that you take more care of your edges and balance in the composition

I made a quickie example on how I'd probably try to change this picture, if I was to make one.

Yea this helps. I am amazed at how easy you can throw the enviroment in without struggle. Thats where I struggle. Seeing the big picture,,,perhaps I have tunnel imagination aye hehe. When it comes to backrounds and enviroments I get some type of block in my imagination. The process of blocking in is where I need discipline. Someone told me I need to spend more time in the concept design and to do more brainstorming in designing my work.
Nevertheless, you have been very helpful.

-hoodz-, layers, well, not much when doing pictures. Usually I just add layer when I'm gonna paint/try something I'm not sure will work or not. Never more than 1-2 layers, but it varys.

indian, glad it helped some. Yes, more concept is always important, to be sure of how it will look before you start.
