hey,
Just got done with an acrylic painting today. It's one of my first paintings ever, and my first time ever doing anything in color from a direct observation.
the flash from the digi cam kinda messed it up. I think I'm gonna scan it in in pieces and put it all together in photoshop.
so, what do you think?

I was just composing a reply saying that the perspective of the lampshade is killing the picture. Then I realized that lampshades go on lamps, not dressers. Now I think the ambiguity and uniformity of that blocky red mass kind of throws everything off. I think you have a completely AMAZING painting here, the detail and color is great, but then that red block kind of hogs the attention and flattens the image. Maybe if that part had some detail on it, some color variation, something to indicate its form, it would pop out a little more and unify the painting. But everything else looks great, especially for your first painting. Awesome job.

Wow! Nice job for your first painting.
I totally agree with Tinusch about the lamp shade. That big red shape in the corner of the painting seems to dominate the composition a little. However, I think this is still a great effort. I'm impressed that you painted from observation rather than taking the easy way out with a photo. Keep painting! |

Yup, replace the lamp and you will find that the painting will really pull together.
