Hi people, here is a new pic I did over the last week. I hope you like it. It began as a quick sketch and turned into this.

Any crits welcome. Personally I am pretty disappointed with how Ryu's arm is rendered but I'm not sure how to make it better. I think I should have used some reference. Any suggestions/advice very much appreciated.

******EDIT******
Updated the pic above, to see the original, follow the link: http://users.bigpond.com/jason129/graphics/pics/sf2final.jpg

Nice work man, I really like the way you did akuma. I think the problem with ryu's hand is that the his hand should begin bending just after the strap, that way the distance between his the start of his thumb and his index finger will be shorter and more natural.. anywayz keep up the good work.

WOW ..

thats is extremely well done.. the lighting and skin tones are superb aespecially on the faces. You really are developing a cool style, I love all the suttle highlights on Akuma's face. Its the attention to detail which really makes you work unique!!!

great Job Jase!

Thanks for the replies! I've updated the pic with the feedback from you guys and other messageboards. Hope it looks better.

the_insider: thanks for your comments. Don't get too stressed out about replies. Just keep practicing

Xirus: I updated the pic and I tried to close up his fist a bit more. You need to compare it to the original to see the difference. Thanks for your feedback

n8: Hey nathan, sounds like you've been busy! Thanks for your crit, I moved ryus arm up a couple of pixels, it's hard to notice though. Thanks again

Freddio: Thanks so much!

You're probably going to hate me for totally ignoring the actual main artwork, but I love the background!
Would you mind telling us how you did it? It looks like really thickly layered paint - an effect I was trying for a while ago, but it would always end up just blurry. Any tips?

Oh yeah - the characters are very cool too. Ryu's face is very well done.

I only have 1 crit, otherwise I think its great.

I am a weightlifter and a personal trainer, and I think that Ryu's tricep would be much larger. His type of martial art (in the games at least) is really heavy in strikes and punches, so while his biceps would be well developed, his triceps would also be large and well developed. The tricep extends the elbow joint, a critical movement in a strike or punch.

Also, his deltoids seem too big. The rest of the picture seems pretty "realistic" as far as sizes and ratios, but his deltoids seem to be a big large, and go down his arm a little much. But otherwise, BRAVO!

EDIT: Sorry, I had to do a quick overpaint (if you call using the liquify tool that...). I just wanted to illustrate what I mean. Hope you're not mad, I really LOVE the picture. imo, the tricep/deltoid area is what was missing.

I was going to suggest the same thing as holyoak actually, luckily he saved me the trouble hehe.

Personally I like Ryu much better than Akuma. Don't get me wrong, I love cartoons, but I just don't like how you are mixing the two styles, Ryu is fairly realistic while Akuma is more styalized. Personally I would try to keep them both consistant

*edit, On a geeky street fighter note, You painted the characters as they appear in the street fighter alpha/zero series. I notice you painted Ryu to be wearing a white bandana, where in the original Street Fighter 2 he wore a red bandana. And Akuma, was not seen in any street fighter game until Super Street Fighter II Turbo

Hi holyoak,
Your crit is awesome and thank you so much for the paintover! That was probably the best advice I've ever gotten. Thank you again. I don't have time now, but I will correct the mistake soon.

Jesusclone: Thanks for the crit, you are right about Akuma's 'comic look'. I'm still finding my style and there is a LOT I need to improve on so there are a lot of inconsistencies in my work. Hopefully in future I'll be able to keep it consistent.

Heheh, thanks for the SF2 tip! I knew that Akuma wasn't in the original street fighter. I wasn't sure what version of SF to write, so I thought it'd leave it broad and just type "Street Fighter 2"

Thanks again guys
