Just a new painting I did sometime ago. i tried to be pretty fast - about 6 hours for everything I think - and rough in places. The linework is all pencil, no ink. Everything was done in Photoshop with custom brushes.
I know the subject is not very original but i wanted to focus on color and brush work

Is this suppsed to be Del from Jennifer Roberson's Sword dancer? If it is, I imagined her a lot more innocent looking. SD was one of my earliest fantasy novels when growing up. I read all of the series except the latest one(by then I had lost interest in reading fantasy novels). I love the Sand Tiger! |

Nope nothing to do with any novel. I never heard of this one actually I just came up with a name for the sake of a name, and since she has a sword.... ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

This is good. Nice anatomy and all. But I'm having some trouble believing that she is standing on floor.
I think the weak part in this piece is background. Maybe it doenst even need a background(?) |

You're right Light, I don't think it needs a background. I did one just to make it look more like an illustration rather than a simple character. It was an afterthought anyway. |

Good work! Very nice sense of movement you achieved with the flowing hair and the scarf. Expressive looking hands too. Crit wise I think the pose lacks some weight, and as Light said it is difficult to say if her both legs are on the ground or not. You mentioned the brush work and custom brushes, and there seem to be lots of neat little details there so it would've been nice to see a bigger version.

Thanks for your comments
I agree it lacks a little in weight, but as I said the background (and the floor for that matters) were afterthoughts.
I will try to post some details if possible. At this size a lot of the brush details are lost. I really like working with custom brushes. You can achieve a lot of different looks with specific brushes (I just designed a set for quick coloring over concept art that works pretty well). |
