I had no idea what to do this week...so i asked around for ideas, until i got the suggestion of making a self portrait. Such a good idea too, since i've never tried making one, except with pencils. So, I took down a mirror from one of the bathrooms and put it next to the PC and started painting.
and well...this is me:
Pretty pretty please with chocolate chips, cream and a cherry on top comment and critique. (guess who played "the secret of monkey island") |

I think your anatomy is off a bit =\
I think maybe the eyes are too far the the right. Also I don't really like how he has little "hair particles" up on top.

well i like it. nicely done i think. obviously not perfect, but whos art is really. your ear does look a bit small to me, but since i've never actually seen you it makes it hard to judge, so i guess i can't really critique this, but all i'll say is that it is nicely done. |

Yes, a very good start! But as was mentioned, the geometry of the face is a tiny bit distorted. Think of it as architecture, simplify the face into big flat planes and facets, except the eyeballs, draw those as spheres, complete with meridians and equators.
Approach it as a perspective-construction exercise. Draw guidelines on a layer in PS, define a horizon line, draw those construction lines, pull them off to their respective vanishing points, etc.
The 3/4 view of the face is the most difficult thing in the universe to draw correctly, I know cause I always fail. |
