This is a study I did in Photoshop and Painter getting ready for some paintings for a Warhammer 40K card game.

What's the study about? Maybe it could give some orientation as to what we should focus our critiques one.

I think the armor, especially the helmets looks very good. I think the gun looks a little too plain though, it could use more details (even if it doesn't make it work better it will at least look cooler).

put some vines andstuff hanging from the trees in the background maybe?

Nice work.

Thanks Jesusclone. This is actually a single character study for a painting with mulitple characters. If you know Warhammer 40K- they are into huge battle scenes. I wanted to paint one character- focus on nailing the helmet and the expression of the armor and see how long it takes. That way I'd have a better idea how long it would take me to do my job descriptions which require 3-5 characters with guns blazing. This study took an hour for the sketch and painting. I was happy with how quick it went.

Thanks Novacaptain I'm glad you noticed the helmet. I was thinking the gun could a use little more detail. This stuff is all about cool guns. Maybe I threw in the background too quickly? I was hoping the impression of vines and stuff would be there.

Little Bee- Thanks for the feedback. I've always wanted to do work for Games Workshop- so I am excited about this project.
That's a good observation about the edges around the gun. And I like the suggestion because it's easy to fix I checked out your web site a couple of days ago and I really enjoyed it.

Borni- great, but what don't you like about the helmet...?

Thanks for your comments. I am sending some sketches into the art director for approval tommorrow.

As always, I love your work.

The gun looks fine to me, but I'm a fan of sketch, heh heh. As for the background, it's a little flat, but that helps bring the character out. If you're hoping to detail the background as you've done with the bot, I'd just clean up the streaks around the gun, because they make it all look like they're on one layer.

Slick, slick work. ^_^

Well I have to agree on the helmet. Its good coloring and such things.. its just that its not really the right design as it should be .. check out some pics and minis,, and you see .. the eyes are not 'drawn' as far back as they should and the lower part of the helmet is less 'outwards'

well this isnt exaclty a good pic but anyway.. chek it out .. and browse the web or go get some minis. .
space marine 1
hmm .. that Link didnt work.. strange, well browse this..
www.games-workshop.com

Other than that I think you have a good style,, I have nothing to complain about the other part of the pic.. I feel like its very good actually., . it got "feeling".

Btw. . I did an Inquisitor that was up here for c&c a month ago or something. and I got some other pics going on..

Thanks Flat.

Marcus- thanks for the reference. That's actually a better shot of the helmet than the art director sent me! I think I'll go get some minatures to help me out also. Oh shoot- I might have to buy more toys.

I checked out your Inquisitor- cool man. I told them I liked Inquisitors and Tyranids best, but they wanted Space Marines! You gotta start somewhere.
