Hi, I just got back from Uni and thought I'd post this picture that I completed whilst over there.

I'm not satisfied with it (too problematic) but it looked good when I had a high quality printout made.

Thanks to Steven Stahlberg

I like the compostition and the color. The figures look like they need some reference. And the creature looks like he could use some more detail because he's the focus of the piece. A big battle seen like that is hard to do because there's so much going on, and there's lots of places to make mistakes.
Here's a link to a battle scene I did that has the same problem. http://www.epilogue.net/cgi/database/art/view.pl?id=9296
Last month I got a contract to do some Warhammer 40K scenes. If you know their game- all they do is massive battle scenes. So I am attacking the battles one piece at a time. First I'm doing individual character studies- then I'll put everything together. I've posted one of the studies in the Gallery/Finished work forum.

It looks a little unfinished still...and why is everyone bald? Too many lice where they live?
The big guy looks too modern and high-tech to be attacked by people holding "torches and pitchforks" but there might be some story element that explain that. The picture could use some sharpening and more colors...maybe some red/purple in the sky, less gray in any case. keep it up

Thanks for the comments. I'd like to respond to a few.

I'll start with the hair comment: they're monks.

Big chap looks too modern/hi-tech: It is a robot.

Picture quality: Compression can be harsh.

Warhammer 40K: I am not familiar with this.

I can't add any more detail to the robot simply because he would lose distance.
Like I said- I'm not entirely satisfied with it. But it is complete.

Well keep the good work. Find a game shop and check out the Warhammer stuff. It might give you some good ideas.

I think it's really cool. The big guy's design is brilliant and there is a very strong sense of action in the picture. I think you should use some more time and get the detail's right, cause this could be an awesome picture when totally finished.

Hey thanks fellows!

I'll probably work a bit more on it. Although I was encouraged into leaving the foreground characters simple (honestly!) to somehow boost the feel of action, I'll work over this very point and try to correct it.

I'll find time to post an update.
