...everywhere a pic pic.
Here's some of the comic oriented stuff I've been doing lately. Done recently for a comp over at Spawn.com, for the cover of the Sam and Twitch book:
Next, it's Frankenstein's monster, from a wonderful drawing by T Bone:
Reworking some of the colour for a submission with Jason Paulos, of Hairbutt the Hippo fame:
Some of you maybe (maybe?) remember me posting about my project Red Giant? Well, its coming along slowwwly, but it is happening. I exhibited some artwork last April at Comicfest here in Sydney, and it was well received. So thought I'd just show ya the logo:

JLo
Famke
Loretta Young
Estella
Thanks for your time, and be back with some interface design and matte painting soon

1st brainless comment: I love the way how you use colors! ! ! ! !
2nd comment (just lobotomy level): The 1st pic is cool, but don't like too much the faces of those guys and those girliewhee pics are very nice studies. |

Bloody awesome!! I love the loretta young pic. The brushwork is extremely tight and confident while still being loose and expressive.
If I may ask, did you attend artschool? And if so, which one? |

If there was any justice, this thread would have 100 posts in it. Nice work.

My apologies for posting this thread and then not replying to these wonderful replies, but I was tied up for several months out of state on a contract. Anyway, I'll get on with it:
The Magic P: Thanks so much mate. You've got to be one of the most prolific posters on this board nowadays, which is great. I just hope it doesn't cut into your own creative time, 'cause what of seen of your stuff shows real potential
Gil: Not by a looooong way, but I certainly appreciate the kind sentiment. Now put that hat back on please, people are beginning to stare...
tek9z: Glad you found some joy in them.
Pat: Thanks for the support Mr Duke. I like your stuff too!
Burnout: Ta mate. Hmmm, a few people have picked that one as well. Must be because the lines and almost flat colours make the image rather bold?
Kay: Understood Sir *marches off to do website* Might get you to do a beta check for me if that's ok?
Tepox: Great to hear from you mate (and I appreciate any amount of cerebral energy from you). How is it all going?
Hethebar: Wow-that just made my day
JasonN: Thanks so much! Yes, trying to loosen up but still have a ways to go. But I can see an improvement which makes it all worthwhile (along with great feedback like yours). As for your question about art school, here's my background:
I hold a Bachelor of Design, Visual Communication. It was a four year course at the University of Technology, Sydney. The first year we spent doing classes like objective drawing, life studies, image making using nothing but pencil, ink and paper. The next few years was a mix of electives like film studies, animation studies, video making, interface design and general art and design theory. So it certainly wasn't a non-vocational fine arts degree, which I assume you mean when you say art school.
That said, I would like to mention that I had the privilege being taught by the great cartoonist Ron Leishman (www.toon-a-day.com). Ron taught art class during my junior high school years, and I would list him as my first big creative influence. He took me on excursions to my first art gallery, arranged meetings with University of Calgary animation graduates, and introduced me to creators like Richard Comely (creator of Captain Canuck), which is all way beyond the call of duty of any teacher. Anyway, I mention this basically because Ron made a huge impression on me and I've always wanted to thank him publicly for being such a wonderful artist, teacher and person. Thanks Ron!
BTW, thanks for asking and feel free to mail me if you want to discuss further <[email protected]>.
ToPeirA: Post any pics you've done from Shane's site, love to see 'em! Thanks so much for the encouragement with your kind comments!
Dr. B: Glad you like. Now if I can just get that likeness with less strokes and fuss...
Lunatique: That's great encouragement-thanks so much. If you're over on Shane's board, pls feel free to post your versions as I'd love to see them. Gotta say, the work of seen from you lately has been wonderful
Samson and friends: Rich and dirty- I like that description! I was happy with the way I was nice and loose with the feathered jacket, though I tightened up with the face. Maybe next time...
Boomstick: Thanks very much mate-really appreciate the kind words.
n8: Great to hear you were at comicfest! Did we chat on the day? Do you post over at ozcomics? Mail me if you want to discuss <[email protected]>. Great to see another Sydneysider on board!
Rinaldo: Another aussie! Glad you liked. So Adelaide huh? Much design/animation/film work going down there? I recently did on contract with Photon VFX on the gold coast as things are a bit slow in Sydney right now. How are you finding it?
Awetopsy:
I was going to post more studies here, but it seems Sijun only allows a maximum 8 images per person per thread ![](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) |
