Hi all. Some of you may have seen these already as I've posted them at Enayla's forum.
Thought I would post here too. I may change the dark elves eyes a bit and broaden her up (but not much) around the shoulders.

The store keep was painted on a 3D image of the store in the game.
The game is mostly a 3D environment but the charracters are 2D animations.

I have to paint sections of these faces in various stages of animation. Ugh!

*looks both ways* meh. how come no one answered here already ? Anyway..

The first is really amazing. The second portrait could use some deeper shadows I think..
Are you going to post some of the animations as well ? I'd love to see those too

Cheers !

I think the animation will be a hard thing. I'm animating 2D figures myself soon and I keept them as simple as I could and it still will be a hard job. Would like to see the animated ones too, so plz post. Btw, I like the images a lot...

i like first one best, the second is too flat, but the detailing is good. must be a very hard work to animate this as rogeli and fritz said. nice work!

Not so hard really. If you are totally repainting every frame of expression then it would be, but if you plan to just scale and move the facial features using photoshop tools (with added painting) I think it would alleviate a lot of stress.

Real nice work. i'm glad to here someone is still doing good sprite work out there too. I'm growing tired of all this 3d stuff, miss the handdrawn stuff.

Hi,

The shading in the eyes of the first one make the expression a bit strange, but that's minor. Besides that the pictures are great.

Were these done in Photoshop? I think I can see some of the hard edge brush strokes but can't be too sure.

I also miss the hand drawn characters in games. I find that 3D (at least when "mass-produced" for a game.. there are certainly excellent 3D artists who have made wonderfully spirited, one-off 3D pictures) still has a bit to go before it can achieve the same feeling that a hand painted piece has.

Oh yes, I will admit as quickly as the next guy that 3d art has come a long way. abnd is only getting better, but there is something nastalgic about 2d sprite games. I still play many of them everyday. Black Thorn, any FF game before 7, and castlevania games. Oh well, =] times change.
