Very simple thread, all i want you guys to do is show your very early digital work and your most recent digital work, to see how youve developed.
say when you did each piece of work and any other comments you want to make about it.

first piece of digital, done last november.

my most recent finished picture done last week.

im very happy with how ive been developing over the months and i feel that im achieving new goals with every image i finish.

3D:

1995, 15 years old, 3DS release 1

2002, 22 years old, Animation:Master 8.5

2D (tablet-based):

2001, Painter 6.5

2002, Photopaint 10, work-in-progress

I don't have any of my really old mouse-drawn stuff here at work. I actually started in 2D with Autodesk Animator before I got into 3D. I'll post some later if I get a chance.

Cool thread!!!

I did this one...my first digital painting...last year...around this time I think...its a mock ad for a mod I was going to do but never got around to.

This next one I did about 2 months ago....It's a 3d painting...recreation of a Beksinski piece(I love his work!)

and last but not least is my latest work...my first try at graphic/abstract art

Just a newbie question, since I'm sitting here, slaping myself around, because I'm such a bad artist...uhm...what program(s) should a beginner use to do his first steps in digital art?
I have photoshop.
I guess a tablet is almost necessary... :/

Tablets are nice etc and I am going to get one soon that will help a lot but...

all my stuff I do with a mouse ATM and well it aint great stuff... but it works out well enough atm. I use 3dmax and Photoshop

I am not... how can i put this an experianced artist since some are more experinced than me here and stuff... but I do fine with the mouse and just two programs.

I also have flash which I am still learning to make intresting stuff but that is it...

I also suggest a lot of testing out stuff in the programs just making quick tests... Just right now I am starting to really get serious at computer art... I usally paint my stuff in canvs and stuff with oils acyrlics and stuff but i realize i can make better sketchs in the computer becuase it is a lot more easy to fit the errors than in the real world... So I make the sketchs most of the time they are bit messy but have everything set up for me to transfer it into real life... Just keep at it... you could even take some courses...

I will add something later to this fourm post

Technically, my first digital piece would be a piece of texture I did for Prince of Persia 3D, back in December of 1998

The early digital non-texture piece was a bunch of sketches from 1999, when I first started messing around with Photoshop 4.

This one is from about 2 months ago. Done with Painter 7 and Photoshop 6.

ok, so my first few aren't digital....but maybe you can atleast see the steps leading up to my very first digital rendering piece (that's first...and ONLY digital rendering!)

This one was done in 2000, colour pencil on cruddy paper. Lesson learnt: paper sucks (that's why it isn't finished).

Here's one done in 2001 for Uni, Illustration Markers on Layout Paper. Leason learnt: make the effort to go out and buy the RIGHT base colours...otherwise bad makeup smudges happens on chins.

and finally, my first Digital Rendering done a few weeks ago. PS 5.5 with a mouse.
Leason learnt?? not sure what i've learnt from this one yet.

Well. Interesting.
My first real digital work was this. Done with mouse, using photoshop 5.0 LE.

This is my last, and actually my tenth digitally made artwork. Got tablet last week. Made a week ago.

Well, the first self portrait was also done with a mouse... I was really new to digital art then. Hard to make that transition over from traditional. I don't think my skills in general have increased all THAT much since that oh-so-hideous self portrait, but my skills in digital art specifically have.

Let's see if I have some old pics left....

Ahh, yes...this one it's exactly 2 years old:

Jett was one of the main characters for our story (Battlesquad Omega). This is one of my first colored lineworks. The colors are pretty simple (not much detail, not much shadow). The Battlesquad Omega logo was pretty cool to design. The story is as good as dead though.

Here are two of our recent pics.

Well, I started around '96 (and to be honest, those pictures weren't all that bad for a 13 year old) but unfortunately I lost most of those images and have only some left that I spreaded to my friends ...

this was done '97 with DPaint II under dos with a mouse ownage

then years passed and I was into this type of style for a while:

and this is one of my latest pics:

This was the first pic that I posted on Sijun about 2 years ago which was done using Photoshop 4.1 - kinda had the whole Roger Dean thing going on with this one.

This is one my latest pics which was done using Painter 6.1.

BTW, folks, I'm having real problems with my ISP, so if these pics don't show, it's because the ISP is probably launching the 1st Crusade against porn sites or something...
