Hey guys, long time. I posted this on the lumental, but while I'm at it why not post it here too. I haven't been vey active sharing and posting lately, been busy and there's been plenty of other things to occupy my time. But, atleast here's a few small things from what I've been up to lately.
Just to mention it, I've just started this year playing with oils and I'm still on a beginner level, but it's fun. So, why not share them....
Here's a painting I did a while ago (my 4th actually), the toilet at my work......done with black and white and ultramarine blue and burnt umber. . . . . like I said, quite on a beginner stadium.
Here's my fifth..... A self portrait. With tips from seegmiller that I should try using only black and white, yellow ochre and alizarin crimson. A bad scan, I can't get the brush strokes and colors to come out as they are on the picture. Guess I need some better photo equipment. But, it was a fun picture to paint.
And, here's a couple of test paintings from Blfjell 2 the sequal to a norwegian game we did a last year. The regular cave room was just a test on how to paint a cave as this as quick a possible, because we will have to do a bunch of them. So, I did these in one day. The other one with the big ice block is for a small game inside the game, here you will play shufflepuck with another leprechaun. -hope you like it
cheers! |

nice work...there is a sargent painting in the LA County Museum you should see...he used a similar palette as you for the self port.
r the landscapes concept art? if so..what could you add so that there was a larger number of ideas in them. I ask cuz Ive been trying to get the levels in our title more populated with character specific and area specific stuff that is beyond the ordinary and expected.

Nice work Joachim. You have a very good grasp on light. I like your traditional work very much. Out of interest how many years have you done traditional work? Have you had any traditional schooling?
How large are these paintings?
Cheers

Very nice pics! Love that toilet
The caves remind me of a place on Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, called Cuevas de los Verdes.
hmm.. I really don't have anything constructive to add, all four pieces are stunning
Keep up with the oils. I've seen the other oil paintings you've posted too, and they're looking really great.

Cool! I always look forward to seeing your new artwork. You're getting better'n'better with oils. I like the head area in the self-portrait. The backgrounds are excellent. Even though they look similar to the previous bg's for that game, I can see a lot of refining and improvements.
I've got a lot of artwork I've been wanting to show you and get some feedback, but I've got a couple more to finish before I can do that. I've learned a lot from your painting style.
Take care, bro. |

Great work Joachim! Very inspiring stuff, makes me wanna jump back into oils, not literaly of course :P I really like your pallet on these especially the self potrait, very alive colours giving a nice gritty realism. Excellent! Love that toilet one too, looks pretty creepy tho, would definetly look over my shoulder before going in there :P Very refreshing to see work like this, hope to see more. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Joachimp! ooOOOK!
Good to see you again, nice to see 1. you're still creating stuff and 2. it's better than ever! Great stuff, my 'beginner oils' were more like the stains on the floor of your wonderfully painted bathroom than the bathroom itself.. needless to say I gave them up pretty quickly You seem to have a great knack for them though, keep it up (if you can afford it!)
Caves are great too, nice cool lighting and textures, and if they're just 'quickies' you could have fooled me, excellent work!
Hope to see you around more, tell Micke i said hi. |

That "beginner" oil painting of yours is better than most artsy fartsy pro stuff. |

Glad to see your stoff here again! I like the toilet painting a lot it reminds me of a friend of mine's work he did in school. He'd find a way to incorporate one in most of his paintings. Really like the range and depth you got with so few colors to. OH, so much cool stoff, but gotta go. Glad your back.
Ciao |

I know what you mean, it's very hard to get good pictures of oil paintings. You can lose so much more than just brush strokes sometimes (colors, texture, atmosphere ...)
anyway, try some close up shots of certain areas that's what I do for my really BIG oil paintings. I think it would be really nice to get a closer look at that self portrait.
Great work ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

These are sweet. The texture and light on the self portrait is beyond good. The last two paintings are excellent considering how quickly you finished them. Are you doing these in your apartment/house? (I've always had a horrible mess with the clean up.) Kick ass man. |

Hey guys, sorry for late answer, but I've been out of town for a couple of days. But, thanks a lot for the feedback.
Here's some answers,
awetopy, Thanks, hehe, yeah, it isn't the nicest tiolet. Our offcices are nice, but I wouldn't mind a new toilet -it's not as bas as it seems on the painting though.
jason M, Thanks. Yeah I would love to see that sargent painting you are talking about, unfortunately it's a bit to far away. landscapes, concept art...well, something inbetween, I expect that they will look very much like this in the production as well, so they were sort of made as a reference....the one with the ice on the floor will be used, but probably not the other one. Ideas for stuff, well, in this game it's important that there isn't much there except like maybe some simple wooden benches and a couple of other things, except for that it's not supposed to be anything there. So, I try to play with the rock chapes instead. But, a couple of rooms will have like a type of woodoo style were there's a lot of very basic weird things that us regular people don't know how works. That can be fun to paint. Sorry, so without any further thinking I don't have too many ideas to suggest
Flexible E, Thanks man....hehe, yup not a very delicate toilet. Notice that the top handle is open, and the reason for that is that we are only guys pissing in there, hehe.
valarianROOT, Thanks a lot man ! I'm glad to be back posting a bit too.
klaivu, thanks !!! You should try traditional media, it's a lot of fun. SOme things that you do digital is difficult to create, but a lot of things that is hard digital comes easier. A lot of fun, me thinks!
Dom, THanks a lot. how many years, well, that depends on what traditional media you are talking about. pencil, pens and markers I've been doing a looong time. But, watercolor I've been doing less than a year, and oil I tried out for the first time between this christmas and new year, so 4 months to be exactly. Size: all the paintings I've done have been around regular A4 size, painted on acid free paper. But, the self portrait is on a canvas and is rather large, typical poster size.
JimS, Thanks man, means a lot. The caves I didn't think of any place, but I'm sure they can remind of some place, caves are caves, hehe. . . . But, not usually with gloving crystals I guess -but I could be wrong
Lukiaz, thanks !!! Very nice to hear, though I don't think that way of my oils myself, hehe...but nice to hear. I guess atleast that oils came more natural than acrylics which I couldn't create anything close ok with at all.
Dixter, Thanks a lot mister ! I've seen your latest postings and think you've improved a lot...and it's always nice to see your posts because of your fresh ideas too.
sedone, Thanks a lot Sedone, it means a lot that you say you've learned something/anything from me....because I love your stuff ! ANd, I can hardly wait for you to show me your new stuff. Yup, the backgrounds for that game is similar to the first, which is the point ofc. but I'm glad to hear that you feel that it has improved as well....which ofc. is what I and I guess everyone strives for.
the realit, thank a lot.
morbid guy, Thanks man, makes me happy to hear you like my stuff. I think you've posted a lot of awesome stuff lately. Love your sketch stuff...The great art bros
you should try out oils !
napalm, Thanks man, hehe...I thank you for the compliment, but I doubt your oils were that bad. Oils aren't that expensive....do you think ? You have to pay a lot in the beginninng for all the equipment, but you can paint pretty god damn many painting with the tubes. Hope things are going well for you, what are you working on these days ?
[666]flat, thanks man !
lunatique, Thanks for the compliment. I hope I will have a lot more control in the end of the year though.
tinusch, Wow, nooo you can't mean that. But it warms my heart anyway
shannen, Yup, taking photos of oils is a bitch. Wish I knew of a pro photographer that could do it for me for free, hehe. I'll try out your tip. thanks!
akolyte, Thanks man ! Yeas, the oils I'm doing in my home. Nah, I don't think it's that messy at all. Just try to keep things clean while working. I hate cleaning the pencils though.
Again, thanks everyone for such nice comments.....I'll get my butt off and post some more soon.
cheers |

Very nice stuff joach ..I wish I could crit but my skills are not at you level..so I will say from a less experienced point of view that
the first picture looks great something out of resident evil but some of the perspective looks a but off to the eye ??? Like the angel of the toilet seat and the angel of the canister next to it are not the same. Just some minor details to think about when you do your next painting sketch..
The second is very nicely done .. you gave the flesh great mass , it's still a but muddy and needs to be more sharp but maybe that is your style?
The thrird and forth are awsome , some areas are a bit blury which kinda throws off the illusion of being a 3d render..masterful !! ![](images/smiles/icon_eek.gif) |
