Here's a self portrait I did while at work. I think I took about 2 hours total. Maybe a little less. Anyway, I've included the reference photo I used. It's a straight on shot with a bright flash, so there's not much to work with as far as shadows are concerned. I'll try to work with better photos later, but for now, what do you guys think?
It's not really a self-portrait but a self-charicature. I need to know what I need to concentrate on so please critique. . .
Thanks.

Nice pic! I have seen something similar before.., make the face "bring out" it's most characteristic... of the one you paint. well I like =D |

I think it is a good shot, but one suggestion that came into mind is since when charicaturing you are supposed to exaggerate out the characteristics of a face you should for example make the lower lip larger than the upper lip (as in the reference photo) and not the other way around.
Or are you reversing yourself ? Since you also made the face narrower than on the photo. |

I agree with peter. + the light on the photo comes from the front. We still can feel it in your drawing, you should have changed this. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The funny thing is, my bottom lip is not bigger in real life, so I guess I wasn't being true to the photo. Like spoogedemon and so many others have said, I have to paint what I see, not what I think I see. |
