Actually, just one girl, three views. And no explosions.

Critiques would be *much* appreciated, as this is a character I'm trying to develop as well as iByrnly possible.

Its hard to get replies around here, I find that if it isnt painted, it isnt regarded much. Personally im glad I didnt over look this because I like the pic alot, cool character design she doesnt really have a trump card that sticks out much as a character. But Chicks with swords has always worked in the past, good job!

Yes, there's definitely a preference for "images" on this forum rather than "designs".

A good one for feedback on this sort of drawing is;

Ah very nice. That's some pretty radical hair design you've got there. I like it.

The sketch in the middle is the weakest of the three, IMO. Her right arm is oddly shrunken, and the proportions seem strange when compared to the first one.

I like her clothes too.

Ive read this a few times Sumaleth and I still cant quite seem to make sense of it. Can you ellaborate? I could understand if you were talking about the fact that its a scanned drawing and not a digital piece.

If anything I think it belongs in the Work In Progress forum.

Cheers mate.

Sumaleth is just saying that people tend to respond to full color paintings around here, not sketches, design work, rough concepts, etc... i think these sketches look pretty finished, although iByrn says the character is still in development.

by the way, nice sketches iByrn. i think the character could use a little something more to make her really unique, but she seems to be coming along well.

I think it is excellent -- she is maintained in all three pics and has enough original design to stand out even without coloring.

Physically speaking, her trenchcoat looks thick and leathery and tight on the first poses, but is fluttering like toilet paper around her in the third. I envision a restricted motion in action shots -- or if she's leaping like that, have the trench opened entirely, with a t-shirt underneath or what-have-you.

Again, excellent.

Yeah, I just meant that line-work like this doesn't tend to get much of a responce here unless it's very high quality. I think it'd be nice to start another forum here for that sort of art, but there are other forums that already cover that stuff very well and there's little point diluting the forum situation even more than it is now. (ie. too many good forums doing the same thing)

Row.

Thanks.

BTW, I actually think a linework forum and a strictly painting forum is a good idea. I tend to visit these forums more than others. I just seem to hold it in a higher regard.

anyhoo...

About the forum thing, I've noticed that extra, specialized forums like that tend to get largely ignored, while most people stick to the forums that are heavily populated and are familiar to them.

About the coat, I didn't really think of the weight properties of it, something I should have. You're right, the coat shouldn't have so many elaborate ripples. I believe if she was falling, as she is in the pic (hopefully I made that clear) the coat would be flying up a bit, but not have the flowing "toilet paper" feel to it. The slip underneath, however, would be more ripply.

I look at characters, especially from anime, and don't really see anything that sticks out a lot of the time, yet you can look at certain characters and immediately say, "oh, that's so-and-so from Dragonball", or what have you. I think it's the artist's particular style that makes a character recognizable.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Next time I'll try to have the pics actually colored and stuff. I'll check out that board, Sumaleth.
