good job
the shape of the horse & rider would appear strange to me if I didnt already know it was just that
I like the details on the ground .. how did you do that ? AirBrush with Variable Splatter (in Painter) ?? that is a good idea for pebbles :-) |

Notic and Bilbo, thanks!
Geelimp, I'm using Photoshop, as Mr. T mentioned it's just round brush with spacing set off.
Mr. T: Yeah, that's the brush
Joachim:
You haven't seen it yet?? Helm's deep is SWEEET, tomorrow go to see the movie, the preview is in the end (new reels came to theaters last friday, but make sure in advance that they have the preview), it's 3 minutes long!!!
TheRealT, thanks!

Hi BG what do you mean>? how do you turn off the opacity on the brush? and care showing me the first step to painting. I always get paint over lapping another and it does look right and i give up!!
Thank you for your time.

Haha, I meant spacing off, not opacity.. It's so late I can't write what I mean.
If you paint long time with single stroke you get a lot less overlapping. |

Good job. If I didn't know it was LotR fever, the new one could be Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Fever

You are taking my breath away with how much stuff you're doing and the sheer quality and passion that you put into them.
As inspiring as LOTR is to you, I'm sure you are as inspiring to many of us here with your dedication and drive. |

wigin, I really don't mean to sound at all critical or insulting, but you keep taking Bg's images and recolouring them yourself with an almost 'nuclear' tonal range. I honestly think Bg does a really good job picking his own colours. |

Nice work BG. How 'bout some color variation in tha face? Anyway, the other two are great. Wiggin, that doesn't...look good. Just being honest. |

Great work BG.. It's possible to download a bootleg of the trailer on: http://www.movie-list.com/l/lordoftheringstrilogy.shtml (the 20 meg one) but it's pretty poor quality. But it's the complete preview.. some 3.5 minutes. Great stuff! OR you can download a short (but legal) preview on http://www.orlandomultimedia.cjb.net that one is only 1 minute.
I can't wait until they release the complete preview online.. I hate screener bootlegs.
Everything in the trailer looks great! It feels more Tolkien somehow.. Theoden looks awesome. So does Faramir, Eowyn, Eomer and Grima. And Gandalf the White.. geez! He looks amazing. I CAN'T WAIT!! |

Here is my suggestion for colour variation in the face. I tried desperately to take my own 'advice' into account that I bombarded wigin with while fiddling with this. If it sucks, I'll jump in a tub with the toaster. :P
edit: stupid band-aid make typo!)$(

Diruo- Thanks for the link!
Oh man, even though the quality of the image is bad, I still sat through it with tears in my eyes(yeah, I know. I'm a sentimental fool). These things always make me cry. I'm weird that way. |

i guess ill take this image down since im am probably annoying the shit out of everyone here. I was just trying to give contructive critism to BG. But to tell youthe truth all ive been getting are flames soo whats the point eh? The color switching / very minimal repaint i did was just to show to BG that his imageis good be could be better colour wise So that it would divide the foreground and background better. Right now looking at his image i personally think the distinction between those 2 elements isnt really noticible. Also i though for such an dramactic event lighting didnt seem proper for the painting. soo by changing the colours a bit i changed the setting into more of a sun set type of image witht foreground/ characters in a yellow/orangish setting and the background in a purple/redish tint so that you can see the different between foreground and background. Maybe mine was a BIT Too saturated because my monitor isnt well calibrated..But i just fixed that )
Im truely sorry if i offended anyone.. =(

Wigin: No need to be sorry. I understood your point and it's a valid point. I'm trying to make these sketches look/feel as real as possible, so I limit myself to the palette of the refrence pics, the third pic would need quite a lot of refining and cleaning edges, before the background would stay back there. These are for training purposes so I'm not gonna spend 2 hours on these. Thanks for the crits!
Lookitsfrank: I may be wrong but I think it's Edoras, the main city of Rohan. Painting the foreground took about 30 minutes and the background perhaps 20.
Fritz: Thanks
Anthony, good crit, any better now?
Diruo: Thanks man!!! Great link, you made my day, great links!
Messybrain: Ok, I made the other light source stronger in colour like in your overpaint. Thanks for the crit!
Lunatique, don't worry I cried too hahaa April eleventh the Fellowship hits theaters in China!! |

Bg-- Oh HELL NO! I'm NOT going to watch LOTR in Fucking Chinese dubbed dialogues. Hell the fuck NO! I'm going to Hong Kong next month and see if they are still showing it. If not, I'd rather wait for the DVD than watch it in dubbed Chinese on the big screen.
To watch LOTR in any language other than English would be just foolish. I mean, the use of the language is such a big part of Tolkien's world! |
