Thanks for the comments. I kind of see the Patrick Stewart thing too... certainly wasn't intentional, but there you go!
sukhoi: ha! yeah, I play guitar, so I realized that he's playing an odd chord, but I had enough trouble getting his little froggy hand to look right on the guitar. At least he has his thumb over the top, in the tradition af all true blues guitarists. |

A frog playing the blues, makes sense.
The texture on the guitar looks a little strange. I've seen two types of guitars:
1 the varnished and shiny ones that you get in the music store
2 the varnished and shiny ones after a few good years of use that have the area next to the acoustic hole (or whatever it's called) worn out by playing.
The metal strings could be shinier and the picture as a whole appears to lack a bit of color variation. Try making the shadows/lights using more colors...
If you'd like a source of informationn on color you can always go to the ever-popular Color theory thread from "discussions" which is always a good read.
I like the spots on his face...gives him character. |

You'll never believe it but.. that hole is called the "Sound Hole" how original.. There's some 'useful' general knowledge for you. haha. |

"sound hole?" oh well .
Now that you have a tablet you can make longer and more fluent brush-strokes, use this to your advantage scoono |

thanks again guys.
novacaptain: i appreciate the critique. i agree with you about my lack of color variation. this was partly intentional, i wanted the picture to have a dusty, worn feel to it. however, my use of color really does need some work. as for the guitar, this is based on those old southern blues guitarists from the early 1900's. their guitars didn't have any finish or varnish at all, and were usually made out of cheap, beat-up wood. that's sort of the look i was going for here. as for my brush strokes, i'm waaaaay too tight when i paint or draw. i do need to loosen up a bit
ken: yes, i did this for the contest. i like having an "official" project to work on. otherwise i just end up with a bunch of incomplete doodles.

He reminds me of Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, when he goes out on the street at night in the trenchcoat and hat =P. |

That looks so cool. I love the way you rendered the guitar. It has a kindof a homey comfortable feel.
I wanna hang it on the wall in my room ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I like it I don't know this Patrick Stwart Frog guy, but it does remind me of the Frog&Toad books/movies I saw as a kid
I do have one gripe however, I don't like his cigarrette, he looks likc such a nice frog aside from that heheh it looks a bit out of place IMO.
