Hmm... I like the map, the idea and the general layout, but I'm not sure that that yellow works very well. Maybe tone it down to a mellow orange-brown instead, at least on that main window. Are the rest of the graphics finalized? I only ask because the circle on the left doesn't have the same clean illustrated feel as the other buttons. Perhaps put a hand-drawn compass that you'd see on an old map there instead? I think that might fit in nicely...

Hmm.. You know what might also work well? Try lightening up the map design a little, and putting it as the background in the grey areas around the border, then make the main window a solid color. You'd still have your map design, and could cut down the load time for your site. You don't have to, because it looks nice as is, but it might be something to experiment with.
