An image I did for Don Seegmiller's contest, missed the deadline, I sent it few days late... Oh well, it's 6 a clock in the morning and I'm tired. Comments would be nice...

:*(

If the impression you were trying to give was one of sadness...

...then it worked.

The figures moving off into the distance mixed with his broken horn get your point across well; Along with his pose.

This is a great pic BG. You have great artwork.

It's beautiful. the rocky craigs, distant mountain, and snowy field are awesome.. Is this pic inspired by one of Herge's comic books? I loved that series when I was a kid, still do.

Very nice work Bg.

Go Timo!

One tiny suggestion-- the seperation between snow and rock/dirt can be very sharp and distinct--almost no soft edge of any kind.

i love the landscape, very empty. i get the feeling of, "wow, its a long way those mountains".

the yeti, it just kinda seems ok. nothing spectacular. with exception to the edge of his face, which seems sad or in contemplation, or even just watching not really understanding what it is seeing.

the landscape is what really draws me to this. nice work.

nice work as usual Bg
I,too, think it looks sad.. lonely perhaps ?
I like the way you painted the landscape, particularly in the middle/back-ground
Let's hope it is included in the contest. good luck

(btw.. where can i read about this contest? there isnt much detail on Seeg Miller's web )

timo - I really like this painting. Somehow I would like to have seen more of the yeti but the background simply rock(!) love it! Glad you made it late for the competition, 'cause I think I (and the rest of the entrymakers) would have had a hard time competing against this painting of yours)

Top notch stuff!

lookin very nice, great adaption of his sad mood

I do think, however, that the figures hes looking at are a tad too big.. it kinda messes up with the sense of scale for the mountains in the background imo

Your colours get richer and deeper with each painting, Bg. You're really improving rapidly man. Your landscapes are awe-inspiring.

Mythwarden: That's what I had in mind, I'm glad you noticed! I wanted to see if people see what's happening there without explanation.. or maybe I just forgot to explain hehe. Anyway, here's a short explanation of what's happening there: A legend tells of a frightening monster called Yeti, who lives in the mountains of Himalaja bla blabla.. I tried to convey quite different personality for Yeti in my pic, yes, he's horrible from the outside (at least when needed but from the inside, he's lonely and scared of times when he has to be alone. The image captures one of those sad moments, it's time for good bye, he won't see anyone for a loooong time.

Hunago, Thanks! I don't read comics, books or comic books much, never heard of Herge.

Gil Audin - Thanks

Thanks Luna! The rock was a tough one, I still need to practise it.
By the way, how's the learning of 3d coming along?

Jabber: Thanks!

Geelimp, you hit the nail Don erased the contest info from his site when the competition ended.

Cyberlink, you guessed right!

Boomstick: Thanks man!

Clawfist, The figures were tricky, I couldn't make them big or the scale would be lost and I couldn't make them small either none could make out that they're figures

Creed, Thanks for the compliments!

It's coming along one day at a time. I just finished another polygon modeling tut, and I'm moving on to a Nurbs tut. Maya 4.0 is quite different from Max.... I have a female head(the melancholic princess)in the making. I'm doing it by building poly faces, and then sub'd it in the details. I also have a mess of concept art I'm amassing. I'll do a big art dump in the near future and show them all at the same time.

Added four progress shots (top of the thread)

Binke, Thanks a lot

Lunatique - How's the Maya like, I've read the interface is harder to learn than in the other packages, true? Do you have any progress images of the princess' face? Perhaps I could give some pointers..

Timo, you don't feel the snow is somewhat dirty? I mean, it's the Himalayas or so, one would think the snow to be of purest white - also one would think, judging by the sky, that there's direct sunlight, which would make the contrast way higher.

But hey, still better than what I can come up with.
