Hello all...

I got on board a few days ago and have been offering advice to artists since...and yet I haven't asked for any advice myself yet.
I love constructive criticism and would greatly appreciate whatever comments you have to give.

None of them are necessarily final and all can be altered, so don't hold back. ;-)

Here are the digital paintings...

Wow! The atmosphere! the fantasy feel is wonderful, great fantasy works! May be you should give the female figures a fuller, more cursive body, to add more impact to your painting...er..just my opinion.

the last one feels kinda compacted, like his sword(?) is going out of the picture. Other than that small thing they're all amazing...

You both have great points. Thank you both for your compliments and thoughts.

VanGoh- You make a strong point. Especially in the painting "Creed" The one with the woman against the post. ;-)

Wolfe- I never looked at it that way. That painting is of a "Ghost" from StarCraft. He's balanced on a Ultralisk's blade while lighting up a Zerg camp for nuclear launch.

Perhaps I should paint part of the creature attached to the arm? I don't know if that will get rid of the feel of it being compacted for you though...I'll have to put some thought into it. ;-)

These are some interesting images. My only two comments would be;

. Some of them are a little confusing - the designs dont read as clearly as I'd like.

. Why the monochromatic colors?

Row.

Samuleth-

.Confusing Designs- Which ones and how are they confusing? Perhaps I can fix them if I can see it the way you do.

.Monochromatic- Most of my style is revolved around night scenes. Lack of light equals monochromatic. You don't have too many colors in the dark. Hence a lot of blue and purples and greens. Same goes for underwater scenes.

I add more color where it fits though. A lot of various colors would have taken away from the overall atmosphere I was trying to achieve.

Please post if you disagree and how so. I'm looking to improve my work not protect it. ;-)

Wow, these are all absolutely stunning! The colors you chose are really beautiful. There really isn't a whole lot to critique, aside from a few nitpicky things, which I'll go ahead and point out...

On the first picture, the woman's torso looks a little too elongated. Her breasts are too low on the body, and her waist seems too small for her head. Just shorten the torso a little and widen out her hips, and she should look just fine. The lighting is really fantastic, by the way.

On the second picture, I think her legs are too long and thin. Make them just a little bit wider, and not quite so long; at the moment they don't seem to fully belong to the rest of her body.

Other than that, I can't see anything else to critique. Beautiful work!

Julie,

Thanks for your great compliments and critique's Julie.

The first one is "Kira" and you are right about her proportions. I've had them pointed out to me a couple times before.
I did change her however but she didn't feel the same when I did. Seemed like she lost the sleek style I created her for.

Does that make sense? Probably not. I'll have to do another version of her with the things you spoke of. I'll post it here. ;-)

The second one is "Nightfall" and youre right on that too. Funny thing is that her legs used to be too wide and I had somebody point out that they should be thinner. I guess it's all within the eyes of the beholder. I respect your opinion though. I'll change that one and post it here too.

Todays been a long day. I'm off to sleep. You all have a good night. ;-)

I really think you're on to something here. These are very eye-catching images... but I think a few of them might be TOO eye-catching. I think there is a lot going on here.. almost to the point where simplifying might be something worth trying.

A quick example: in the 2nd image it seems almost like the tree on the left was thrown in as an afterthought, and doesn't really belong. Compositionally it might work better without it at all.

Sometimes less is more, is all I'm saying.

Really like these though, keep 'em coming.

umm..for the first pic..mabey she isnt elongated per se...just make the arms a little longer and move the breasts up a smidgen..that might solve the prob??...
othere then that i dont really feel obliged to critique anything else..hehe...theyre great

I think your rendering and proportions are pretty right on. You have a great eye for detail....but I have to agree on composition. Your work has too much going on in it and makes ones eye move all over the place and distract them from a main theme in each image.

I think you should think of main shapes when working on your image....negative and positive space. Then go in and make that awsome detail and atmosphere. You will then have one hell of a piece on your hands!

Its great work, I would just think more about composition than you do at the moment.

Wow, they all have a awesome glow!
Though the last one is very confusing.

maybe it's because of the rather small size they are in.

Great stuff!

Lovely work, mythwarden! I agree that last pic is pretty confusing. Don't know what's happening with the legs and the pelvis.
Second point: There is maybe too much contrast to my taste in some pics (those black areas are just too black )

The 2nd pic: what's is that black spot on the girls neck? the neck/shoulder area is anatomically a bit odd too.

btw. I visited your HP and I saw some very nice pencil stuff! =)

This weekend I'll take the time out to do changes to some of my paintings.

They'll likely be different versions shown since people's advice would sometimes collide with each other. I still want to try each person's opinion anyway.

Thanks all, I really do appreciate you taking the time to respond. ;-)

Here's a larger version of the last one. Perhaps it might be a little easier to see with this one.

I'll have to respond to some of the questions I've seen this weekend when I have a little more time to put some thought into them.

Thanks again for your compliments and views. ;-)
