A good thing for you to do would be to look at the shadows on objects as shapes rather than drawing lines and trying to shade. This way you can look at proportions as to how they relate to each other.

I really like the mood of the scultpture...I like how you have his arm laying on the ground and the blood you put there.

As far as animation goes...you should look at everyday life and watch how things move. Study poses that people make in everyday situations. Also buy animation dvds (something with great motion such as pixars stuff) and play them frame by frame and notice how many frames it takes from one pose to the next to get timing down.

I will post in this thread again of some great animation tutorial sites out there. Too many people getting into 3d just learn the modeling aspect and lack horribly at motion and poses or even lighting for that matter.

You are off to a good start and its good to hear that you will be taking the right steps by persuing life drawing classes. Draw from life everyday...its the best way to get better!

First of all let me do some apologizing because I kind of feel bad. Sorry that they aren't digital, sorry my host sucks and the pics are slow to load, and sorry the pics had to be taken with a digital camera. Hope you can find it in you to still comment

These are 3 things I have done within the last month. Being a senior in HS right now my plan is to take a year off of regular schooling and take some art courses at the community college and some life drawing classes at the closest fine arts college. I will hopefully get a portfolio good enough to get into a nicer college. Trying to be more well rounded and then get into 3D animation. Any advice on what to work on would be great.


This is a still life done with oil pastel and acrylic wash for the background. Didn't really understand how to use the oil pastel. Not exactly my favorite choice of mediums...



This was about a 15 minute charcoal and black crayola self portrait. Yes I have another eye but I didn't want to draw it.



Sorry about the pic quality on this one. It is a metal sculpture. It's supposed to be a guy laying on the ground with a sword through him. not a pleasant situation, and I think I made his torso a bit unproportionate (sp?).




Not of my art teachers are very into giving crits, they just kind of give assignments and then give grades. I have learned so much more from here than from them. If you have any comments or crits I would love to hear them. Need to make sure I get headed in the right direction for the next year.
