my eeeeeeyeeees
...so bright...melting...
It still eludes me how a pic on a monitor can create such an effect on the eyes. Love the contrast |

This looks pretty sweet, reminds me a little of the artwork seen on posters at ABB ( a corporation that works with electric power generation/distribution among many other things). The picture makes me think "Power".
The hand seems to blend into the background too much. Maybe you could set the background's value to something in between the yellow and dark red/black of the hand.
The hand looks almost 3d-made.
How did you make the texture on the hand by the way?
EDIT: on second thought, maybe the hand needs to be brighter...I'm not sure experiment a little and see how you'd best bring the hand away from the background without changing the mood of the picture.

Thanks for your in-depth critique Novacaptain. I'll keep them in mind when I'm doing my next piece.

I posted this at another forum:
Most of it was done on my Intuos 9x12" A4. I got the idea for the hand from an anatomy book, you know, the cut-through concept used in every single one of them -- I used one as reference. The hand texture is mostly hand-drawn as well, with a few transparent (4%) overlays of coloured glass scanned in 600dpi. The background consists of a blurry photo of a soapdish and a stock photo of about a billion paper clips. The "magic ball" is simple airbrush/pencil tool work, and the twirling stuff at the top is done with a digital camera with the shutter speed set to 3 seconds, and my optical Logitech mouse dancing about with a little help of my hand -- colours of the result were tweaked a bit (read: a lot), naturally.
