So, you avid fantasy literature readers, which one?
The fans of both authors are at each others' throats, and it's kind of funny. I LOVED Wizard's First Rule by Goodkind, and dropped Wheel of Time after the first chapter. So, not having really read Jordan for more than a chapter, I can't judge his work.
Your thoughts? |

jordans okay, but he just takes so long to get anywhere in the plot. theres one book where rand is in for a paragraph, then it flips back to something boring. |

I read up to Jordan's fifth book in WoT series and couldn't take it anymore. He makes the women god-like and depreciates the men. I don't mind this, but it gets old after a while. He also pours way too much detail into things that really don't need it. I have friends who read all of the books so far and love them.
Goodkind's books are excellent though at times repetitive. I admit he pulled a few tears from me with these books. They're great.
Robin Hobb's "Farseer Trilogy" beats them all though, IMO. ;-)

In my opinion, they're both a bit much. It takes a great writer to be able to tell a story that stays interesting for as many pages as these books span. I've read about the first half of the "Wizard's first rule" and I felt the story should have ended there...But I REALLY like them both (Jordan and Goodkind), almost as much as Stephen Donaldson's "Thomas Covenant"-series and Gene Wolfe's "New sun"-books. |

I read the Wheel of Time up to volume 7.
But when I had to wait a year and pick it up again I just couldn't follow it anymore and I decided to leave it alone untill he's done writing. Right now I doubt I will ever do that though.
It's ok. But nothing spectacular.
Terry goodkind's first two where great. After that he's just kind of lost the knack it seems.
Although I really liked "Faith of the fallen"
I just thought it was hilarious that he would write anti-communist propaganda in the form of a fantasy novel. I didn't think it was very serious.
Untill he dedicated his next book to the american secret services or something.
That just reverted him into a senile american redneck conspiracy theorist in my eyes.
I will seriously never be able to take that man serious.
On top of that his last book had an all new cast with characters that where dumb and completely unbelievable. It was the worst fantasy I had ever read.
I don't think I will ever pick up his books again.
I just started reading "The Tawny man" by Robin Hobb.
Robin Hobb is the absolute supreme fantasy writer if you ask me.
Three hoorays for Robin Hobb!!!
HOORAY!!!
HOORAY!!!
HOORAY!!! |

I love Robin Hobbs' books, both Farseer and Liveship trilogy. Is The Tawny Man her newest series? I haven't seen that yet, but will certainly check it out asap.
Guy Gavriel Kay's books are also very enjoyable.
The one or two Goodkind and Jorden books I've read felt like a waste of time by comparison. probably it's just me though. |

The next series is pretty cool.
It's set 15 years after the Farseer trilogy.
I've only started. But I suspect there is also links to the Liveship trilogy.
So..it's all pretty exiting. *Sighs*...I want to be home.. |

In the way of Comparing Goodkind to Jordan i will say this: I liked both a whole lot. The difference is i was able to read all nine books of Wheel of Time, and not all the books in Goodkinds wizards series. I would say that the first few books of Goodkind's series (1-3 maybe 4) were very good, but at a point its like "ok this is getting a little absurd.... so you mean the bad guy is back again, only it was the boss of the bad guy. Im not reading this again" I think Goodkind should have ended the series at Temple of Winds. Wheel of time is a pretty good series. It stalls a little bit at book 8, but i would say it is well worth the read.
