lo there!
I made this for for my artclass at school some time ago (the sketch).it was supposed to be for a cd with slipknot and SOAD on it. finished it up today since I wanna get started with my wacom for real this time (colors are a lil off maybe). first tried out digital painting like 2 or 3 years ago and never touched it since really, I could kill myself for that ... I'm sortof starting from scratch here..
oh and here's the one I used, really rushed, but it came out much better in the printed version
cnc welcome of cos |

I like the style of the first one, the second one is a great drawing, but not as interesting. |

Greatings fistos!
You may want to go through the first colored image and get some shadows in there. There's shading, but the general lack of any shadows makes it look weird. Speaking of shading, try to keep your dark areas from being so uniformly dark, as well as uniform in width. I'm speaking specifically of the shading on the face around the eye and nose. Try darkening the pipes and adding highlights in keey areas instead of the full length of the pipe.
When doing fur with line art, try not to be so blurry, and work on the overall shading of the fur area befor actually getting in to the fur. It looks like you added lines with the airbrush, and just added more lines to make it darker. The tip of the nose is great, though could use more pronounced highlights. Again, the general lack of shadowing is disconcerning. Use more colors! It's rare anything apart from computer graphics and plastics are uniformly one color. A blue dog would have several hues and values of blue across it's fur and skin. (Many animals have several colors on each strand of fur; a cat for example might have a striped pattern on a single hair changing from dark to light colors down it's length ... this of course you would not want to paint, but is good to know.)
Pick a light source, or many light sources, and stick to them. Mentally trace a line from where you know there are lights to the place your working to see if it's lighting that area, or if it's shadowed.
Now stop all this art tom-foolery and get back to UnrealED, slave! |
