here's a little portrait that i painted in photoshop. i loosely used a photo of an afghan soldier as reference. my goal was to create a piece that felt hand painted, so i used only hard edged brushes and occasionally the smudge tool. anyway, i'm more of a designer than a painter, so let's try not to laugh too hard.

constructive c&c are more than welcome.

Wow, impressive job, especially for your first attempt! I've got a sketch of an afgany soldier that I was planning on painting soon as well.

The only thing I notice right away is that the eyes aren't very shiny and wet looking, they look rather dry. Keep painting!

hey thanks cedrian. i agree with you about the eyes... i had them a bit whiter with stronger highlights and they were starting to look a little cartoonish, but now they definitely do look too dry. i'll try to put in some more work on them.
