stayed up working on this tonight. ugh. i'm not even happy with it. but i thought i'd post here anyways to get some feedback. should i have left the wall alone? i was real conflicted about it. oh well.

i'm sure it looks better at this size.

c&c are welcome... i guess. rather have crits than compliments.

[edit] the eye is all wrong isn't it? i hadn't compared them next to each other like that before. sigh. and i promise, the pictures ARE there, just right click and show picture, or refresh.

Hey I like it, the only real big difference is that her lower lip is not as full as you drew it, but overall the piece is very nice.
How much time did you spend on it?

You did something a lot of artists tend to do. They improve on their subject to make it look better than it actually is.

Not a bad thing, just something to note for yourself. I've certainly noticed in my own drawings if I don't like the person I'm drawing they come out extremely ugly, even when I'm not trying to, and if I like the subject they look more attractive than they really are.

An art teacher once told me to draw what you see, not what you think should be there. A simple comment to be sure, but this tends to go a lot deeper than the conscious level. Your emotions towards the subject one of the reasons you need to work on an image objectively vs. subjectively. It also looks like you made the eyes slightly larger, another thing that happens when you work on an image subjectively. The eyes are one of the first things you see when you look at a person, thus you focus on them and make them bigger. You may have done something similar with the shadow behind her head; focused on it trying to get it right and ended up making it bigger than it should be.

Sorry for the mini-rant.

Check out that knee too. By far the most "out of whack" area in my opinion. Wonderful cross hatching on the face. Ever tried doing zinc plate prints? If you liked doing this image you'll probably like doing those.
