Some Sunday morning sketches. This stuff might find its way into the project I'm working on at work. That happens occasionally...

I see Ralph Mcquarrie in there, hehe.
Very nice!
One thing though. It doesn't semm very low, a feature regularly seen in real tanks to gime them a smaller silhouette, and therefore making them harder to hit. It would perhaps also make you design look meaner if you "flatended" it a bit, I dunno. Because on the other hand a tall design also looks intimidating in some ways, hehe...
I like the middle one best.
Good job....I feel like drawing now, thanks mate

Cool stuff, as I expected. You live in the future, huh? Something I noticed when looking at the date on a drawing of yours. Hehe.
I love how you implied the cloud in the last drawing. Way cool.

Cool sketches as always Francis, but as shardik said, my first thought was Episode 1 too. Whats probably not too good, especially if you put it in a game. |

ah..I wasent the only one that got the Star Wars vibe...the last sketch actually reminds me alot of the desert boats to Jaba from "The Jedi Returns"...but ofcourse..they do look cool. But as the first guy said...tanks probably should be lower to the ground...I really like the tank design from Aliens..a cross between a Ferrari and a tank..*s*...where even the guntower folds down back to make it even lower in the terrain.
keep it up!!

Thanks for the comments. I guess they overwhelmingly resemble Episode I designs, which I didn't intend.
What I wanted to do with these was 1) make tanks without wheels, and so these are all hovertanks; 2) change the proportions a little so they were more tall than low and wide. That probably defeats the purpose of most tanks.
There are definitely a lot of cues here that have appeared before, i.e. the little vertical outrigger wings. I'll have to watch that.
Thanks again for the feedback, it is very helpful to get an objective view of this stuff. |

Awesome sketches Francis. Love the designs. They dont seem so Episode One-ish to me, but I only saw it once.
Quick question, hope you dont mind.. since a lot of perspective work is based on perfect cubes and knowing how to draw one at any angle, did you learn to instinctively draw cubes and right angles from a lot of life drawing from cube models and such? I've read your tutorial on your site about determining a perfect cube using a plan. Do you still make plans for determining this and other geometric properties? |

really cool tanks.. but they remind me a little too much of the tanks in star wars ep 1.. im not doubting ur talent cus ive seen all(well not all but you know) of your stuff and its awesome. im just saying that if you put it in ur game it might become unconsiously connected to swep1. |
