let me start off by saying that you should peruse these photos before reading further...
http://www.studioflaagan.com/photos/goodguys/
i am a car fanatic.. particularily of older cars (like mid-70's and back)... being 20 and a so-so artist (or illustrator or whatever..) i've been somewhat involved in the younger crowd of artists (that have a tendency to base their style off of anime)... while i dont consider this group to not be extremely talented, i've come to find they are rather limited in their belief / understanding of what is art... (this is a generalized comment for personal experience, no insult intended to anyone)... so, because of that, i've come to find myeslf excluded from the 'in group', as it were in some cases, because i am more likely to drool over a classic flamed hot rod than a page from one of their comics... i do so because i see the cars as having a more tangible appeal, and because i appreciate the amount of design work and effort that went into every curve of that car's body and every minute that went into that perfect flame job....
i know i'm sounding like a gearhead, but besides that i truly believe cars are as much modern masterpieces as any comic or painting or etc...
what do you think? |

not art, but design has it's own place as a very powerful force in our lives. you should think about going into industrial/auto design man if you're so passionate, cause I'm tired of modern cars being so benign and unaffecting. |

I was in a group with 2 other guys from my school where we had to make a presentation on some form of public art. we chose cars - the profs loved it. We even went to a big car show in town and interviewed some of the folk there .. asking them if they considered cars public art. Most people agreed whole heartedly :] |
