Well if im going to do it comic book style, I would usually draw in blue pencil then ink it.
But if im just scanning an image, I would scan it at about 600 dpi, then size it down to 300 (if its just a personal piece).
Then I would convert it to grayscale, adjust the levels so my whites are a nice white, and the blacks are a nice black, but make sure grays still blend nicely.
Now if I color it, I take the linework, put it in a new image, and a make a channel for it. I then add the color flats using the lineart channel as a guide. Then i copy color flats, lock the original, and either color on the copied flat channel, or make channels over it and color. Results slightly differ.
Ramble ramble ramble.
Usually scan at 2x resolution your going to work at.
Clean the original up as much as you can, get rid of graphite smudges and such. This makes touching up the image easier.
Levels are the key to making an image have higher, not distorted constrast. |
