For me it's simple: nothing really matters. |

The meaning of my life...um...what's a life???
My life (or lack thereof) has no meaning, unless it's to sit around and accomplish nothing. I like my life. |

id say "have fun" as well, or at least try to in everything you do. It may not provide you with the ultimate philosophical answer you may be searching for but at least you can have a good laugh along the way - |

My existence . . . the existence of all life on Earth . . . these have virtually no effect on a rapidly expanding, ever thinning universe.
We like to apply "meaning" to our own endeavors, but chemically we're no different from the stars. What meaning do the stars have? What's the grand purpose of a botchulinum bacterium?
All life is enslaved to a complex chemical bound-up in all of its cells . . . in a sense, life is a carrier for information. We exist to perpetuate a code. The code tells our bodies how to grow, and our brains who to love, in order to perpetuate itself. But is that a meaning, or just a consequence of the way inheritance developed?
I wonder how many terabytes of data are stored in the average planera (flatworm) . . .

To avenge the death of my father. I shall not rest until.........oh wait no....I already did that.....hmmmm......guess it's all rather pointless at this point.

Ok.. this is a deep question.. and isnt meant to start any theological debates or anything.... and you certainly dont have to answer if you're not comfortable doing so. Im sure Ill get a few smart-alec replies...
Do you feel that your life has any meaning? If so what do you feel the meaning of your life is? Do you feel that you are accomplishing that meaning? Are you happy with the life you have?

balistic: No you don't. Nobody really cares about flatworms. I think they are simply hard to love. They want love but....they push you away at the last moment...I should know....<sniff>....

Someone once told me that the meaning of life is to find out what the meaning of life is.
I suspect they might be wrong. |

Everything might be chemical reactions and all that stuff. But doesn't mean that they don't have a meaning.
Something holds everything together. And it must have it's reasons otherwise it wouldn't do it.
But thats just my own, probably not very rational, opinion.
About the meaning of life..
Life is the meaning of life.
The way I see it is that the only thing that you can get out of life is the accumulated experience of your whole life. Which inclused happiness, unhappiness, achievements and failures.
I do not step away from things that I feel that I need to do. Eventhough it means sometimes being ridiculed by people or going through very hard times.
Happiness is a goal of course. But if you always choose instant happiness you will end up living a grey, uninteresting life.
I know I am sounding kind of overdramatic here. But this is something that I believe in very strongly. |

I'm born to cleanse the earth.. Maybe that's an exaggeration, but I've always want to do something big, something that will change the people who follows my deed.. something like creating a new religion.

If life has a true meaning we're yet to find it.
No matter how you try to rationalize it, every answer turns out to be based on nothing more than personal values. And personal values are different for everyone so they have no relevence to anyone other than yourself.
It'd be cool if there was a grand meaning for it all, but based on current data you'd have to say there is no meaning. It just is.

I think I've know what the meaning of my life is since age 13. It has remained the same throughout the years. I basically wrote it as my self-introduction on my website:
"Me in a nutshell:
I surround myself with things I'm passionate about, and people I care for. My love affair with painting, writing, music, photography, and film have been, and will be the guiding light of my life. From the blithe curiousity of a small child, to the melancholic gaze of a broken heart, the mystery and elegance of our world captivates and moves me.
We are only human, imperfect and flawed, but in our moments of radiance, we are capable of such profound beauty. It is those moments of radiance that makes this life worth living.

As far as purpose goes:
"I want to know everything
I want to be everywhere
I want to $#@! everyone in the world
I want to do something that matters"
Although I may have some personal exceptions I'd like to put in place for the third verse, Trent managed to nail the average human manifesto pretty well I think.
I must admit that at times my ultimate purpose isn't quite so vague or grandiose. It sometimes seems to be to just make it through the work day so I can come home and chow on some Tacos. |

Man, you can ponder that sort of stuff all day. And you know what you end up with? NO... MORE... DAY... LEFT...
bye bye - all time is gone, while you were wondering if and or what you should be doing -
I read a great quote in a book "the confidence course" - I forgot the author - and never mind why I was reading it, but it said: you want to make one of three things in life: money, a name, or a difference.
Forget all the BS about what life is supposed to mean, and wake up and realise that it means exactly what you MAKE IT MEAN...
thus endith my rambling

You can sit around all day (or all your life for that matter) and try to analyze and reason what the meaning of life is, with this detached, objective viewpoint, and just go around in circles. I think that the meaning of life lies in the meaning of being human. The fact that you are a human, and that you are different from rocks and gasses and bacteria. Yes, we have the same physical properties as all matter in the universe and we're just this sort of organic robot that is programmed to reproduce and gratify itself, but being human is different from being a rock or gasses or self-replicating microbes.
There was this guy who recieved a humanitarian award on the Oscar's this year and I think he said some pretty profound things. Basically he talked about his life and about how he was raised and he said something about respecting human dignity, and that he found it funny that he was getting an award for what everyone should be doing.
I dunno, maybe I'm just being idealistic, but I think if more people were in-tune with this fact, that humans don't have to be just these meaningless things floating around in space...that we have the capability to comprehend the question in the first place "why am I here" is enough. Some people turn towards religion, some people have other ways of dealing with that question. I think someone said this before me but, my meaning of life is to find my own way, and be ok with that...
(edit)damn typos...

Last computer I built to figure that out took another computer to design it. Then I just discovered that reaching into a scrabble bag and picking out random letters will also do the same thing. And then of course the android knew it all along.
anyways, there is no reason. We are just nicely laid out globs of hydrocarbons. Thats all. The only thing though, is that we know that and therefor think we're better then the rest of the world and tend to destroy it. Yup, no meaning exept to desperately scramble to come up with something to justify your 80 year wasting of oxygen. |

The meaning of life is that there is no meaning. People always try to find and searching for something that is simply not there.
We are animals. We eat, sleep, shit, and breed. Beyond this its merely what we do to pass the time away until death or age beats us down. |

We're all here in existence, and its all about your state of being. In other words, you may as well ask what the meaning of the Insano Speedy Super Rollercoaster at Bushy Gardens is. Its a ride-learn from it, have fun with it, or be scared of it, its just here, so may as well make the best of it. |

i've actually been thinking about this recently.. naturally comes with mild depression my life right now has 'technical' meaning.. i'm going to school, i'm working an awesome job.. in that, i'm securing my future when i graduate, so i can get another awesome job it also has meaning because i've got plenty of friends who encourage me as i encourage them.. i try to help people in their troubles.
i think the meaning of my life is to be ultimately happy, and love others as they love me. it all seems to come down to that, and those two go hand in hand. for the most part, i am accomplishing that meaning.. i have stuff to complain about, but i really shouldn't because it doesn't matter. i am happy with the life i have now [see first paragraph], and am for the most part satisfied with how i'm handling it.
i do my best to save the world too.

In order to have a purpose in life, one have to create purpose and meaning, this is not something you can recive like a gift or advice, sure were all "animals", but that one thing that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom is our choice, we can choose to live as we want, do what we want, and it is thru this we can find meaning and purpose, the meaning of life is a definition of personal preference.
And mine is to build my private robot army and have them KILL ALL HUMANS. |
