lol. I just KNEW this would happen... I forgot to point it out in my post though. Vancouver College, or VC, is NOT a post-secondary institution. It's a high school. A private Catholic high school. It's a stupid name for a high school, but its a high school none-the-less. So now I'm wondering if YOU can give ME any insight for when I graduate this year?
lol. quite the turnaround, eh?

"There's an open house at VTI (vancouver training institute ; its digital media arts and animation) on November 3rd, from 3:00pm-7:00pm. The address is 103-2780 East Broadway"
Thanks for the heads up man. I'll be heading down there. Jeez, im still trying to figure out what to do. The problem with these digital programs is their so damn expensive. What are you taking at vancouver college? Right now, im going to C(r)AP College to get back into school mode as i took a year off after hs. I took a beginner 3d animation course at the Vancouver Film School aswell, but i realised i preferred 2d media. Ugh, what to do now? Any insights or recommendations man?
thanks

Ugh, well im the last person to be dishing out advice as im still trying to get my ass moving towards something. I tend to procrastinate a lot. Well as I said I took a year off, which wasnt actually a bad thing. you might want to consider it. It gave me time to dwell on things a bit longer, and although im no closer to deciding what i want to do, i know what i dont what to do. In any case, i worked at future shop in west van selling computers so i made some decent money which allowed me to buy a sweet ass computer, a car, and go on holiday to mexico. During the year, I also realised i do not want to have a career selling computers, esp for future shop. (Theyre kinda fucked up) I also did a 3d animation course at vancouver film school. It was just once a week for 3 months, but it was about 800 bucks, so not so cheap
Perhaps you should consider something similar, it certainly gives you a chance to decide whether its the area you want to go into before you dish out the major cash(18 grand for the year i believe) On the plus side, if you have that sort of money to spend, youre practically guarenteed a job at the end of it. I recall the whole graduatting class of 96 or something was hired by Mainframe. You know the company that makes reboot for YTV? Anyways, i didnt enjoy it to much, and the learning curve seemed to be quite slow-i was bored quite a bit- but their equipment is top notch. So right now im at Capilano College which sucks (more than high school!!) Im considering CDIS which is an awesome school from what ive heard, but again, major mulah to go there. Ah well, guess i got to graduate from stealing the kids candy to robbing banks. |

Trance, I wouldn't worry about missing the open house at VTI. I went to it today, and it really didn't strike me as a good school. My impressions were it was small, kinda cramped, and their computers were slow as molasses. The work that was displayed was not mind-blowing either, in fact far from it. It fairly cheap tho(compared to other places.) Overall i wasnt impressed. Check out vfs at www.vfs.com which is a very state of the art school, although very expensive, and cdis, at www.artschool.com , whcih ive heard good things about. |

Thanks for that reply.
VFS looks like a good place to go to.
Maybe I'll go for part time.
My parents encourage me to go to university.

Yeah, sorry about the bum lead. It was small and cramped and not at all that great. I walked in, looked around, and walked out. I saw the open house promo'ed on a flyer. The trip would've been a huge waste of time if not for that Anime store a couple of doors down... now I got me a cool Gundam poster! w00! Anyway, I'll inform you, my fellow van-city artists, on upcoming open houses at places taht AREN'T crap, and you do the same, k? Then we're all happy...
