A couple of thoughts.
First off, very nice magic glowing strands.
How did you do them. Is it 3d of did you have some sort of reference? Very nice.
I think, however, that the glow in the palm is way overdone! It's not subtle enough for my liking. I think you could acheive a much better effect if you made it more liquid. Think cold ice. You know...add detail to the smoke in the palm, perhaps making it flow to the edge of the hand and make it float off the edge.....or something .

The magic strands are done by hand, with imagination as reference, heheh. The hand itself was inspired by a human anatomy book -- you know, the cut-through concept found in every one of those damned books -- which I used as reference. The hand texture is a scan of some coloured glass, coupled with more hand-drawn work. As for the background, I used a blurry, close-up photo of a soapdish and a scan of about a billion paperclips.
The "ball" of magic you mentioned, was kind of rushed, and consists merely of a few strokes with the airbrush tool as well as a few custom brushes here and there.
I only got my tablet a few months ago, and my drawing skills are a little rusty. |

Do people here just look at the name of the poster, realize that it isn't anyone they know, and move on? Or is my work just flat-out not worth even a second of anyone's time?
Not a flame, just a question. I can see the forums are full of life, just not my particular thread or the threads of other largely unknown posters. |

Hey Split, long time no see my friend.
I dunno about everybody else but when I try to see your image, I get a "connection refused" each time!
[edit] ..so I followed the geocities link ! Pretty cool stuff, I like the details on the hand, and the stuff thats trailing up from it is pretty cool, but i think the main glow lets it down! Just looks thrown in and too simple.

Maybe if you were a LOT less annoying, people would feel compelled to reply.
When you repost 10x in your own thread simply to say:
"What is wrong with people? Why don't you like my work? Do you just open this thread and leave?"
I get the feeling that most people won't take the time to write something worthwhile. Whining really doesn't help. |

Apart from the bumps, I replied ONCE to ask a quite legitimate question. I have visited many threads made by newbies, and most of them had gotten 1 or 2 replies at most. This suggests to me that people choose which threads to visit based on what the name of the poster is. This is apparent when you look at the threads of the popular forum-goers, the greats. Their topics get at least 20-40, or even 60 replies of mostly constructive and useful criticism. How do you expect newbies to improve their skills if they aren't told what they're doing wrong? Wasn't that the purpose of these forums in the first place?
You chose to reply, yet didn't even bother to comment on my work. You're whining about whining, and all THAT is doing is taking up precious server space.
I don't care for praise, I don't give a damn if people don't like my work, but I'd like them to at least tell me WHY they dislike it. Like any other relatively new poster at these forums, I want to get better.

In ADDITION to the numerous times you just replied to "Bump" the thread up to the top.
If someone's thread gets 20-40 replies, there is likely a reason. You can't FORCE people to feel compelled into offering criticsm to you. If they don't want to, that is there decision; respect that.
So, you only replied once? That's funny, I can count 7 replies from you in this thread including your last post. That seems a far cry from *1*, doesn't it? If you're going to argue, try doing it with facts instead of lies. |

Do you have a reading disability, Mr. Pops?

The keywords here are "apart" and "from". If YOU are going to argue -- which you apparently are -- try reading through what you claim to be false statements before using them against someone.
Come again. |

Greetings
I think the picture is done well, although I would agree in doing something a little more with the glow in the palm. But over-all this piece is indeed fine work.
on the posting topic....I am new to this place and when I post I get an ocassional responce here and there, no biggie to me though, I know it would be nice to get a few more and perhaps we should encourage others by posting in almost every thread that is new at least once.
Peace |
