Hi!
Well, my first post here... I've heard Sijun forum is great
What I'd like to show is a serie of Fantasy characters that I am working on currently.
These characters will be featured on Fantasy Worlde 3D object CDs (some people work also on location and object CDs).
I have done 5 so far, two or three more to finish. Every character takes me about 2-3 weeks to finish.
Important notes - characters are NOT rigged yet (this is actually not my task) so my temporary posing for showing purposes is really bad.
Also clothes are drapped manually without softbody modules, so they may look weird.
All comments or questions are welcome.
I would like to know if you see any major reapeating mistakes.
Modeling faces is the trickiest part for me, I do not have complete control when modeling them.
Easy to guess I have also difficulties to draw faces on paper
I am also extremely bored with texturing, but plenty of people said they like my textures...
I used many sources as references - various photos or pictures of characters, weapons, armours, tatoos, designs...
Quite interesting work for me, but now I have enough a bit (spreading over 50 UV-s for the fifth time is not so funny as it was before .
Pictures may load slowly, do not know why it happens, in some coutries my www loads quick, in some is almost unusable.
Sorry for that. And sorry for my English, I am not quite sure of it...
Have a good time watching
Regards

Wow these are really good. I have a few comments though:
1) The dwarves moustache looks like its glued on to me, rather than growing out of his upper lip.
2) The skin on all 3 seems to have no texture to it.
3) The barbarian's arms look disproportional to his body (the muscles are not big enough)
4) The barbarian's eyes look too feminine, looks like he is wearing mascara.
Fix those and these will be awesome
<edit> Oh ya and the wizards costume looks to wild west to me, wizards look much beter with silks and velvets than leather, as well as a full beard rather than the long moustache. Adding some runes to his robe might help as well.</edit>

Dariusz,
Your work is unbelievable! I got the Turbosquid email a couple of days ago showcasing your dwarf and I spent an hour trying to track down more of your work. I've never seen such care and detail put into the clothing and weapons of a character before. |

To Lomi: yep, dwarven moustache looks like strings I would say... As for Barbarian arms, some people are confused because of strange perspective. IMO they are OK. And you are right, his eyes look like he has make-up - now I see! As for Wizard - some say he looks like mixture of sherrif (hat!) and Kmicic (a legendary warrior from Polish popular historic-adventure book) Perhaps I will remove moustache, he looks older and less old-west without them.
To Scott: Thanks I have put one of characters to TS to see the response. I got some good marks.
To Dr. Bang: Now I have some days off (enough of modeling), perhaps I will check what is going on here
5000 people? God, that is a mass... BTW I do not consider myself as someone superb, I have some decent modeling/rendering/post skills, but I lack with art background (especially character/face). I was studying architecture and we had only a few hours of art studies per week... now I try to learn by myself a bit. These characters were good opportunity to learn for me.
To Flat: Under $60 per CD.
Thank you all for good words
Regards

Your models and attention to detail is just superb - I'd imagine it'd take half-a-year for me to make character like yours. Still, a couple of things bug me: the faces seem very bland in comparison to the clothes/armor, and the lighting is just, I'm sorry, quite horrible. I'd very much like to see some two-lightsource rends of the models - ones that have more contrast to them. Still, keep it up! |

To Marvel:
Several people reported that faces are too light - like Dwarven son of the baker . As for lighting, I have to say you are the first one who complains.
I used standard 3-point setup (main from front-left, fill light from right-front(half intensity of main) and one at the top back.
I am sure it is not dramatic and maybe flattens characters, but IMO in this case it should show the model&details, not perform the mood.
This is my opinion, but I am not light expert... I know a little bit about basic lighing setups, maybe you have some good resources? |

WOW! nice job! I saw some of your elven archer and drarf before on cgchannel, but i must say it again you put alot of tremendous detail on your 3d model! My favourit has to be the knight!
I agree though that the barbarians arms, just need abit of tweaking, make it more bigger.
keep up the great work! |
