This is my latest painting, took me about 12 hours total or so... didn't really watch the time. Used PS 5.5 and no reference. Also, I'd like to mention that the people back at TCJ boards helped me out giving good ideas and feedback, thanks to them (you know who you are).
And, I've mentioned many times before, comments & critique are always welcome. And don't hesitate to dig up your magnifying glass either, I won't mind that at all. |

Wow great pic once again...
One thing though, and this is purely subjective... If this is the second day of battle I would make their armor less shiny and more worn out with dents and rust and stuff like that. Also the single feather in that guy's helmet looks weird. The other feathers look great and form an interesting pattern but it's just that one feather that's kinda hangin' there that's bugging me. Ok that's my worthless 2 cents
Keep up the good work ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Is it just me or are you really getting better at this? I mean, look at this picture and the other knight-one, they're simply the best pics I've seen from you - if you compare them to the stuff you've posted earlier on the difference is really noticeable. (Anyone else thinks Ripelly is becoming our third Craig/Spooge? ).

WOW! thats a cool pic, nice concept too. The colour scheme is brilliant. It has so much mood, and the colours make for a really unified and effective design. Composition is good too. Not much to crit really.
Does that dude have a ponytail? or is that a chic? ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Very cool painting here Rippely, the drama is excellent, very moody, and nice choice of palette too.
A few things that looked strange, the size of the figures seem a little inconsistent. The dead bodies in the foreground seem too small.. Then the guy raising the sword in the distance kinda looks like he's a migit, since the guys way in the back are bigger than him. But then maybe he's meant to be a migit.. Homage to willow?
I think the knights are cool, love the middle one. The main forground guy seems a over worked maybe, black outline of the helmet makes it seem flat.. and the shoulder peice rendering looks too soft, more velvet than metal. I think some harder lighting/reflections might help, scrathches, dents, some blood maybe.. |

Looks damn awesome, Ripelly! I'll try to offer some crits when the swelling goes down. |

Looks nice :-) It seems like you've pointed much attention to metal textures? Other parts of the picture doesn't seem to have the same detalization level although other parts are realistic enough also. |

Thanks to all, even to you crazy fanatics out there. *keeps fans at bay with a long pole*
cyberlink: yeah, i spent most of the time rendering the metal parts, and the foreground characters. The mid- and background was last things I painted.
dixter: you're welcome, but don't you get too excited, heh.
zorglub: true about the should-be-worn comments, I thought about that after adding the bodies lying around the field, but decided to give you the explanation that maybe the knights spent the night recuperating and cleaning up their equipment.. no? hmm.. ok, so you got me there. I put the feather in there just to add some contrast to overall bloody red metallic environment. I'll try to come up with more interesting solutions to the composition next time. Eh..
marvel: urgh... i'd like to be just me, thankyou. The truth is I've tapped so much influece from goodbrush.com that it must begin to show in my style by now (even though my scribbles are far away from the quality of mr. Mullin's works). I guess it's about time to try to create my own style...
corn pops: <=|
ian jones: it might be too red, could use some blue in my opinion, but then again... And heh.. it's a d00d alright.
cos: um, the leprechaun waving with its sword has its legs hidden from knees down. Must've been jpg compression that destroyed the highlights there (YEAH RIGHT!!1). About over working the closest guy, i'm not sure, I painted him many times because I wasn't satisfied on the armour, at least thrice. Argh, black outline! Why did I miss that.. ah well, got to remember fixing them next time.
jr: none were available, and didn't bother to look up for them in the net. I've kind of used to work without reference, it's faster that way.
doc: No, I draw the line there with the fanatics.
highfive: oh my... please not to be hurting yourself. But i still got to develop a faster render style.

this is great
i tried to come up with some crits, but the overall mood and expression is so good that i simply cant
the textures you've created and the colors you've used are awesome
i really liked the fantasy scene thingy you did too, so i'll have to agree with marvel on some points
keep up the good work |

Hehe, love the picture. Only thing I can think to comment on that I don't think has been mentioned yet is the weather there. They must be getting some really crazy winds 'cause those banners are blowing all sorts of directions! |

The colours you've given the billowing clouds looks great and really give a sense of distance. The decorations on the armour of the knight in the center looks really good, too. If you had any more time, you could work some recognisable details into the shoulder and hip plates, like lions, dragons, griffons, unicorns, whatever.
Agree with above about the nics and dents in the armour. Making the knight appear more battle-worn would look pretty cool especially with some dents in his sword. Also agree with the feather in the helmet. Maybe if it were a little smaller and if there were more of them in the helmet? |

this is awesome.
I feel kinda stupid critting this but some highlights right on very front edge of the helmet would be nice because that's a pretty strong lightsource ahead of him there.
Also the clouds/sky in immediatley in front of his head appear to 'dodge' his head rather then go behind it..if that makes sense
The feathers seem a little too solid.
I love it but! |
