whoa.
You've really improved.
Love it.
Crits :
He doesn't seem to be entirely in balance. I think there's some flaws in the figure -- anyway - awesome |

brilliantly surreal. I especially love the apple- its simplicity and the way in which it suggests the motion and arc of the blade. The purple shadow of the knight bugs me a bit, as that color is not really represented anywhere in the shadow of the cliff. Great stuff. You have a site I can look at??? |

looks great! Very nice lighting, colors and texture. i think the figure is rendered extremely well, although the pose is a bit stiff (i wouldn't know he was in motion if it wasn't for the hint in the form of the apple), and there are several anatomy issues (i'm not sure about that- but the position of his left leg seems wierd.) |

Hey Ripelly, that looks great! Very intricate and clean. I agree with the guy above me in saying that the purple shadow is a little off. Try making it a bit bluer like the cliff. Also, the right foot is a bit off, You should tilt it a bit toward the viewer so that he is sturdier, i mean he is swinging a sword =D
Anyway, it looks great man, really good. Great concept too! hehe, i love midieval pieces |

well I really like alot about it... expecially the color of the ground reflcting off the white fabric.
However there are a few things I can see that bug me a bit.
1) would the knight be swinging backwards like that? generally a knight would swing from back right to front left if he were holding a sword in his right hand... I understand this could be a backhand swing which makes the apple slicing even more impressive for that kind of control but makes the pic a little unbelievable.
2) the shadows and and the highlights and the rays coming through the clouds all seem to suggest that the sun is in different spots for each element. The shadows seem to suggest that the sun is lower in the sky, the highlights on the armor seem to suggest that the sun is much higher overhead and the rays of light throught the clouds indicate the sun is coming from somewhere inbetween.
Still I think its a great picture and you are really developing this technique. Awesome stuff! |

the pose seems REALLY awkward...plus the
facial area needs a little more work. maybe some shades of blue...?
the colours look nice. good work! |

The technical handling looks great- good lighting, i like the color. The chainmail is nicely indicated.
But there are some anatomical issues in the figure. The left ankle seems a bit thin, the right shin feels that its arking inwards a bit when really it would curve slightly outward, and the right forearm feels a bit short. But these are just little things.
And as mentioned previously the pose feels a bit stiff. He looks as if he's just standing there. Swords arent light things, and the body would torque and twist, and his weight wouldn't be evenly distributed across both feet (which is what it looks like to me :P |

I love the design of that sword! I also love the way you did the clouds and the lighting. The stance of the guy seems a bit weird but that's okay. Great picture... |

Its a very beautiful picture, all ican say is that you should make the face a little large to match his legs. You've really done a great job

Very nice, My only beef is that the apple is going to fall off the cliff after that masterful cut... |

Wow Ripelly, this is breathtaking. Your use of complimentary colours works perfectly in this piece. I really admire your work ethic, man. You are super-productive, and it shows by how much you improve with every pic.
I know that you place a lot of value on REAL crits, but I honestly can't think of anything negative to say. Great work. |

whoa classic!
really love your choice of colors.
man, how long it takes to finish this?
agree with awetopsy about the light/sun spot issue.
looking at the apple's residue, i think it was a backward slash, which kinda explain why the stance looks like that. however, imho, the sword's hilt and blade position should be steeper than that. right now, it seems doesn't match with him arm position and backward slashing.
just my two-cents anyway (which is utterly worthless if you know our exchange rate ) |

Thanks all!
klaivu: yeah, I didn't use reference on this, i'm regretting it already.
kahboom: no, I don't have a site yet, you'll be finding it in my signature when I get one up and running. About the colours, the purple is there just to trick your mind. Heh.
bilbo: sense of motion and stiff poses are my weaknesses, I've acknowledged that; You're prolly right about the anatomical issues. I'll be working on those.
dryfire: some of the colours are not working very well, yeah. I think I'll just try not to repeat the mistakes I've made with this... that's one way to improve, I guess.
Maus: yes, I can see now the points you're mentioning. I'm definitely using reference next time.
zorglub: heh, I like to draw swords and stuff. And skies too.
moleculeman: Yeah, though i'm not sure what you mean by comparing the face to the legs...
fuddo: No it's not, he's going to make a quick consecutive thrust, piercing the apple neatly into the blade.
corn pops: =| uh... *cough* I'm not certain if this piece has yet surpassed the barrier of "mediocrity". I still have so much to learn..
awetopsy: yes, I'm aware of the "backside slash", I wanted to paint it that way. Agh, you nailed me with those lighting issues. I didn't mark it where the sun is, just eyeballed everything. Heh.
LSE: he got the rest of his scheisse right there behind his back, you just can't see it, d00d. And No, i'm definitely not posting that damn picture here, oh for christ's sake...
quasar: did you look close enough? Heh.
palladia mors: true that. I must've been drunk when I scetched the pose. The face was done in about 4 minutes.
poxen: the courage? I don't know about that, I just draw. Arn Magnusson sounds familiar, but.. hm.. |

Great clouds, nice cliff. I agree with those who mentioned the positioning/angle of the right foot. Someone mentioned the sword arm, and I had noticed that also; by which I mean I can't tell if he's supposed to have just made a backhand cut or what... the motion of the arm isn't convincing enough yet. yo umight try relaxing the mail on the inside of the arm (if he's making a backhand), or tweaking the position of the wrist and angle of the sword. If he's doing a backhand, I'd think the blade would be at a steeper angle, and therefore look narrower. Nit picky, sorry, but good picks require detailed crits, right?

Ah, still more comments to come, thanks for them.
sandhu: This took me about.. didn't watch the time but approximately 5 hours I guess. Maybe more. Thanks, though I'm not familiar with your indonesian currency.
dixter: My scribbles inspire someone? Hmm.. you're welcome, I guess. And don't worry about the apple, he got plenty of those in the basket hidden beyond the edge of the canvas. Thanks to you.
artgolem: Right, you're right. Good news is that I managed to retrieve my sword (katana) and i'll be using reference shots with my webcam next time i'm going to implement complicated poses. However, I'm not going to touch this one anymore. Thanks. |

The apple's friends got angry at the sacrifice. They revolted. Poor knight.
(this is a sad attempt to get this wonderful picture back up to the top. heh.) |

I guess what i mean is that his legs seem to be way huge for the size of his head. Like they are larger than average sized legs the seem.

The painting technique is really good.
But for his posture. Apart from details like ankles and faces and stuff. (They don't bother me) His posture (as well as the composition) just doesn't seem to convey any motion. He also looks like he is riding an invisible plowhorse.
Don't get me wrong. I wish I could paint like that. But his body is just really static. Maybe you should look at some animation resources. Those go into conveying motion a lot. Very usefull.
