Here's something else I did recently....not digital...but erm...yeah. I also have several new drawings I'm going to put in a new thread.

the 'helicopter' image:
some more depth in your composition
(background, guy's legs) could help a lot
and also I should paint the towers more 3dimensional.
>the exhaustion smoke could be
more cloud-like and maybe some stronger
highlites on the metal parts... |

funky
First one's a lil odd, but mainly because he looks like he's in Longjohns, but I suspect that's my problem. Background looks like a relief rather than a background, but that's cool, I'm chalking it up to style.
He really needs another leg, somehow. Even if you think it would be obscured at that angle (or he only has one or something). Gotta decide which part of him is square with the chassis; if it's his rear then his upper is torso twisting and his rotund middle doesn't really reflect that. If it's his back that's square in the seat, waist and legs are swinging off to his right. Maybe that's part of the steering, I don't know. But it could be clearer is all.
Actually I think the whole pedal aparatus need to be brought forwards (assuming that's what it is), since controlling such things with a calf/shin action is really hard, particularly with big solid boots on. If that's not what it is then I think his legs want more comfortable support if they're not being used. Design/figure blah...
Other than that it's cool, just needs some development/planning (but I think you're like me and into letting stuff go )
Second one looks like it's scanned from some pro illustrated kids book. From the waist up anyway. Can't really work out the legs (left arm's a bit strange too, but it's not too noticable). Still, looks great.

tek9z: It's a gyrocopter! hehe....
Cool...I think I'll do all that stuff...I'm getting tired of all the leg comments (about 50% think he has no leg, others don't mention it) so I guess I'll fix that. The reference has one leg behind the other though...I was also planning to get rid of the black lines in the bg...I probably didn't spend all that much time on it because I didn't think it would be all that visible.
Muzman: Yeah! the first one is odd...My friends can deal with giant robots and bird wizards, but fat guys on flying devices...they just don't get that...hehe...He's wearing this flying suit that I half made up....and it's pinkish. I wanted him to look really pathetic....hehe....poor guy.
Well..I didn't just invent this device and the guy...let's see:
Loosely though..Loosely!...I'm seeing lots of things I messed up, looking now though.
Glad you like the second pic, because I was debating whether or not I should even bother scanning it. And that one's an on the fly no reference thing...thus the messed up (well...more messed up than normal)legs...I've decided to stop cropping the figure, because it was becoming way too obvious that I wasn't very good a full figure. So now, I'm showing my faults!....There ya go!
SWANY: Thanks. I think part of the inspiration though is all the chubby spacemen on Rinaldo's site. |
